Blood Angels Terminator Chaplain

Hi all,
I know this figure is totally overdone and played out, but I just couldn't resist. This is really one of GW's best models ever... he's big, mean, imposing, and incredibly detailed. Alot of fun to paint... This guy is my warm-up figure after being out of mini painting for a year or two in lieu of historical and sci-fi models. I used Andrea Color's black paint set for the armor, with a mix of Valeijo colors and mediums, and GW and P3 paints. He's got alot more blending than I'm used to, and it shows in the closeup photos and harsh lighting, but this is all I've got here at college. The weathering was done with MIG Production dry pigments on the base and model. He's also kinda shiny right now, as I'm still experimenting with different matt varnishes... I've got a new one on the way that I'll try on the scroll work first, and maybe the armor to see if it's any flatter.
Thanks for looking, and let me know what you think!

Thanks... it really doesn't hold up to big picture scrutiny as I would like, but in person I'm quite pleased with how it turned out... the rest of the army is going to have a bit grittier worn feel to it, but I figure the characters will all be a bit cleaner like this guy.

I like your style. It should really come into it's own eventually.

Two glaring problems with the paint job, though. The first really isn't that big of a deal, but for some reason it just makes my brain itch. The direct front view of the thighs looks very...off. The highlights aren't painted as wide as they are everywhere else on the model, and they aren't as well-blended. There are also kind of stray gray marks, especially on the left leg, that just don't look right. Fix that, and the black armor will look damn good.

Also, it looks like you didn't spend as much time on the metallic parts of the model. The paint is obviously thicker in many places, which tells me you probably didn't bother to water that bit down. Don't be afraid to, just don't go overboard with the water to metallic paint ratio, or it will ruin it. Also, it's hard to see the contrast on the metallics, which is completely different than the non-metallic parts of your model. Just take a bit more care and I think that's all you'll need.

Other than that, I can't wait to see more work from you. Don't let anyone tell you that sharp contrast on a model looks bad, because at the very worst, you're far from having "just another model". Good job.

Thanks for the frankness... I think I can see where you're talking about on the leg... it could be fixable since there's not any detail bits on the left thigh to work around, have to look at it. As for the metals, I thinned most of the coats, but I think the problem came from the fact that I clear-coated the model after I painted all the non-metallic bits and then did the metals, so I probably lost some definition there.
