Turning around and marching (non skirmishers)

I was wondering it says when you Turn around you use up half your movement

So does that mean a man (move 4) could,

a)Turn around (using 2 of his movement) and then march for 4 more

b) Declare his intention to march turn around and move 4

or

c) lose half his movement and then move in his new direction 2inches <-- i hope its this one

Turning around and marching (non skirmishers)

A unit only gives up a quarter of its movement to turn, either to the side or rear. It may not turn if it is charging or marching. So no, you may not turn then march. I believe your confusion comes from their example of a unit turning to the rear, moving half, then turning to the front, basically a back step. In which case the unit backed up half their move, with 2 turns taking the other half of their movement.

To answer your example, none of these is correct. If I understand what you are trying to say you, you want the unit to turn 180, then move and remain facing what was their rear at the begining of the turn.
So you would: Turn for 1/4 movement (1 inch here)
move 3 inches
end movement, no marching allowed

Turning around and marching (non skirmishers)

Zacarius is spot on.

You can't march as it's a manoeuver.

See page 12 of the rulebook for 'Manoeuvers' then page 13 and 14 following for turning and reforms. Its all there.

You can also do what we call the dwarven shuffle here in Oz.

Turn 180 degrees, move half mvt, turn back to original facing. We just keep the same facing and move it back half the normal mvt distance of the unit to save unnecessary spinning. Wood elves use it to give themselves an extra turn of shooting vs infanty opponents (bloody annoying gits).
