Its "fired" in the shooting phase, allowed while marching, specifically disallowed as a Stand and Shoot weapon, and can't be "fired" into close combat.

Would items etc. that trigger on missile weapons, including magic missiles trigger for a breath weapon?

Generally speaking, if something is *not* a Missile, it will state so, rather than the other way around.

As I mentioned, some ranged spells do not count as Magic Missiles. Good example is Bladestorm. It states it inflicts WS4, S4 HTH attacks on the unit. Same for Fists of Gork. Although technically ranged, these are labelled as HTH Attacks, and therefore are not missiles.

Any other direct damage from a ranged source is a Missile. On the other hand you could go by letter of the law, RAW. in which case breath weapons are 'missiles' (launching fire or something else at the enemy).
