no shooting nidzilla

Giant bugs with guns? I have been into nidzilla ever since I seen some pictures here of some custom magnet work on carnifexs' and tyrants. But I've never seen a nidzilla list that didn't have guns so I thought up a 1500 pt list that I would like to start on. A couple of the 3 piece carnifex set boxes would be my spring board. Well here's the list I had in mind:

-HQ-
Tyrant with scything talons & rending claws
3 tyrant guards
222 pts

-HQ-
Tyrant with scything talons & rending claws
3 tyrant guards
222 pts

-ELITES-
Carnifex with scything talons & rending claws
96 pts

-ELITES-
Carnifex with scything talons & rending claws
96 pts

-ELITES-
Carnifex with scything talons & rending claws
96 pts

-TROOPS-
6 Genestealers
96 pts

-TROOPS-
6 Genestealers
96 pts

-TROOPS-
6 Genestealers
96 pts

-TROOPS-
6 Genestealers
96 pts

-TROOPS-
6 Genestealers
96 pts

-HEAVY SUPPORT-
Carnifex with scything talons & rending claws
96 pts

-HEAVY SUPPORT-
Carnifex with scything talons & rending claws
96 pts

-HEAVY SUPPORT-
Carnifex with scything talons & rending claws
96 pts

So thats 1500pts on the dot. 14 MCs and 30 genestealers should be fun! I don't think that this will be that hard to beat since all the MCs are 3+ saves with NO guns.

Re:no shooting nidzilla

Where most people go overboard with biomorphs, you don't have nearly enough.

I'd drop the guards on one of the tyrants, go with wings. Also go with Flesh Hooks, Toxin Sacs, Adrenal +I, Adrenal +WS, Implant Attack, Toxic Miasma, Acid Maw and Warp Field. This all brings you to 229 points, right around where you were already with the minimally equipped Tyrant. This guy is your anti-Monstrous Creature buddy. With six attacks on the charge, double wounding ability, and re-roll wounds he can tear apart most other Monstrous Creatures and Special Characters.

The walking Tyrant should be likewise equipped, but drop Warp Field, Acid Maw, and Implant Attack, as well as one guard to save some points. I probably wouldn't go with the extra armor on this one because you have 4 extra wounds in the form of Guard. If you find you have 25 spare points, though, it's not a terrible idea. I'd also give those guard Lash Whips to give you a little more edge in assaults. Things can't hurt you if they can't swing at you.

Six groups of six Genestealers mean that your opponent has to spend a single round of shooting to kill them all, not what you want. Up the numbers to at least eight, put in Scuttling and Flesh Hooks on some of them, Feeder Tendrils on the others. Accompany the melee monsters with these Tendril Stealers so they get preferred enemy as well. Because you have no Gaunts to hold a back objective and no long-ranged shooting to sit back there and contest it, you will have a moderately rough time with objective games if your opponent can out-maneuver you. Just be sure to kill his troops. All of them. Hope that your opponent doesn't hop in a Serpent/Trukk/Whatever and just drive away from you.

Elite melee carnifex should have dual scything talons, toxic miasma, and +WS adenal gland for 113 points (generally called a Ninjafex). The combination of +WS and Miasma means you hit WS4 people on 3's and they hit you on 4's. To boost them up to Heavy Support status, you might consider adding Mace Tail, Toxin Sacs, and Tusks for 134 points overall.

To me, an all-assault Nidzilla list at 1500 would be something like this:

Flyrant - Acid Maw, +I, +WS, Flesh Hooks, Implant Attack, Toxic Miasma, Toxin Sacs, Wings, Warp Field - 229
Tyrant - +I, +WS, Toxic Miasma, Toxin Sacs - 128
-2x Guard - Lash Whips - 90
Ninjafex - 113
Ninjafex - 113
8x Genestealer - Scuttling, Flesh Hooks - 160
8x Genestealer - Scuttling, Flesh Hooks - 160
7x Genestealer - Feeder Tendrils - 119
7x Genestealer - Feeder Tendrils - 119
Carnifex - 2x Scything Talons, Toxic Miasma, Toxin Sacs, Mace Tail, Tusked - 134
Carnifex - 2x Scything Talons, Toxic Miasma, Toxin Sacs, Mace Tail, Tusked - 134
Total: 1499

Yes, you lose two Carnifex, but the models are significantly better overall.

Of course, there are many options of which biomorphs to take and you can play with points as you see fit.

no shooting nidzilla

ok you think this is a fun list but OMG! Your opponent is gonna have like 3 turns to shoot you up with absolutely nothing you can do in return except hope to weather it. And even then a large mob of boys with a PK will rip apart anything.

Seriously, when I first started nids I made a similar list, the only shooty thing I had was gaunts and 3 warriors. And it wasnt fun. Most of my army was dead before it hit the battle line and what was left was easily swamped and I was out by turn 4...everyting was dead!

Nidzilla works best with guns because MC's essentially negate all small arms fire and how many lascannons will your opponent usually field? 5, 6?? With luck he will be destroying 1 MC a turn while you whittle away everything. If you rely on assault you give him room to manouvre and take out your most valuable MC's or troops.

I know it does sound fun on paper but trust me...on the board I dont think it will be. Of course its your army list and you are free to do as you will, just a word of warning. Good luck

I'd bring Implant Attack to outright kill things like Nobs and Special Characters. Against a Daemon Prince you have some issue because they still have their 4+ invul saves. Hitting and wounding isn't the issue at that point, it's getting enough wounds on him before he kills you since all of his attacks go right through your armor.

I thought Screamer Killers had something besides toxic miasma?
When I looked at this list at first I thought you were nuts.

It was crap and a sure losing force!

But hang on!

The idea is ok actually, but you haven't quite mixed the mix right!

The guys were right who said drop the rending claws on the monstrous creatures, they don't need it! scything talons all round.

First thing is take out one carnifex in the elite section and replace it with 2 Lictors. These are useful bastards. do it. the next thing is remove all 6 tyrant guard and one of the hive tyrants and take 9 CC warriors as your second HQ. Why? 9 warriors become the retinue for the single Tyrant, they give him cover saves. They have 18 wounds and they can't be instant killed, so you get a similar effect for less point cost overall. Give these guys the rending claws and scything talons, they need them with only 4 STR!

Get genestealers out of your brain!

Take two units of six and give them feeding tendrils because any unit within 2" shares the benefits! so run them in close behind your warriors and tyrant!

For other troops run your army some COVER SAVES in the form of 8 spine gaunts without number.

You find that following this sagacious advice you have quite a few points left you can now clog the board with a couple of massive 32 gaunt fields of claws, or some raveners, another Lictor or whatever else it is you prefer.

Key thing with Lictors and ravaners, also hormagaunts if you run those, they are fast and get on the enemy to engage them thus letting your big guys survive the board crossing to get to grips.

I don't think it is actually a winning ofrce in a serious game, but if you get into more detailed examination of what you want to achieve and get serious you could end up with a handy all CC nid list.

I think you have to get more serious though!

I am a bit slow for the rending claws! I think I will however keep them on the tyrants just so that would be able to deal with a landraider. Yes I can see this list getting shot to pieces most definitely, if the person I face builds for it accordingly. But I ususally face players that only take 8-10 heavy weapons. I feel I can hide the genelstealers behind them until I get close enough to the lines.

I do thank everyone for their feedback and I see now that I will have to playtest a few lists before I spend $300!
