Arming Skeleton Warriors?

Hello everybody, JD here!
I have a quick couple of questions, but first off just wanted to introduce myself. Obviously, I'm new to the Dakka Dakka boards, but hopefully I'll be able to stick around for quite awhile; I've heard it's great here!

But on to the question: today I picked up a box of 16 Skeleton Warriors for the start of a Tomb Kings army. Actually, it's The start of my first ever Warhammer army. And I'm wondering how to assemble them. I'd like to start joining some games down at the FLGS soon, so I'm initially aiming to get to 1000 points as fast as possible. So, should I give them all bows? Swords and shields? Spears or what? I'll eventually develop my own strategies and know exactly what units I want to field. But for now I just want to get started with the painting! So, what's a staple core unit setup I will deploy battle after battle?

Also, please tell me the Ushabti are effective! They've got to be some of the sweetest models in the whole Fantasy range!

Thanks guys!
JD

I'd go with hand weapons and shields or spears myself...

And yes, Ushabti are effective .

HW+S. Spears are a waste of points on a unit whose primary purpose is to not die. Bows are a neat gimmick (always hit on 6s), but costly for what it can do (still just S3 and only hitting 1/6 of the time) and your true shooting is in the Screaming Skull catapult (incant it for double shots).

Ushabti are quite nice. Basically, think of them like undead ogres with GWs. That you can incant.

And yes, Khemri has some very neat models that look beautiful when well painted. I absolutely love the contrast of gold and gems with tattered cloth and old bone.

Arming Skeleton Warriors?

For Tomb Kings, a unit of 16 to stert- bows.

You can move, fire and always hit on a 5+
You can shoot in the magic phase if the spell goes off for 2 rounds of shooting.

For a beginning TK player at least 2 units f skeleton archers (and good sized ones at that) are a no brainer...

Arming Skeleton Warriors?

I agree with Waaagh... you will want a couple units of skeleton archers... as for HtH units don't waste points on spears and the like you will just use them to bait and tie up units until your chariots flank them.
