Tutorial on OSL?

Does anybody know of a good online tutorial for doing Object Source Lighting? Also, if I'm using it, it is best to paint the mini fully first and then apply the lighting effect on top of what's already there?

Tutorial on OSL?

Not an easy technique, or I would think, by any means. Even regular artists have problems w/ lighting in regards to their drawing. There are also considerations to be made for reflected lighting etc.

As far as getting the ball going, I'd probably try starting by using an armature w/ a small ball to represent your light source. Working from there you'll basically be doing some intense blending from the areas that are lit on the model to shade and then a reflected light source.

I'd assume you could either paint you model fully as you want it, then build up the light sourced areas by blending lighter colors. OFC, you could do the reverse also and build up the shaded areas instead. Either way, lots of blending.

Tutorial on OSL?

Thanks chaps. Very useful. It seems strange that there isn't a readily accessible tutorial on this, but the hints you have all given me should help. Thankfully it's only a very small area I want to try OSL on, so the help given will be plenty.

And, TheGrin, any particular reason that the lightcage you found was a naked chick? Did you find others but just decide to go with that one?
