Ork improve suggestions?

Hey guys, I'm starting an orky army when I finish my Khorne CSM....

All my armies are very dark/ebil so wanted to do a very cartoony/bright one here... Im kinda happy with it, as it looks very cartoony, but struggling a bit to improve it...

Any suggestions? I would like to "weather" the yellow and red but whatever I have tried hasnt worked yet - any suggestions?

Also, the red but it still looks a little flat - If I wash it it gets too dark. I really want the red to turn to red with metal so think I will add that - kind of like you weather vehicles if that makes sence?

So, any comments for improvement at all? One of my clubmates (the esteemed Andrew Taylor from rulebooks armies/best painted) suggested I add black as a third contrasting colour which may break it up a little. It would also mean I could mess with colour proportions to mark squad units

The axe and various other bits are not at all finished but just looking at the scheme/colours at the moment

Please ignore the mould lines on the gun as they have been filed off now and the barrel drilled

I've found the Gryphonne Sepia wash from GW works very well for shading yellows. Does great to accent the recesses before you paint highlights.

As for the red, some Devlan Mud will help accent details like rivets, while some metal edging with boltgun or mithril silver will help it look worn.

Looking great so far!

i too really like the paint on it. i guess to weather ti down just REALLY water down some brown or possibly a dark red for the red of course. and the same but with a white possibly for the yellow? and by water down im talking its brownish water. that way it barely dulls it so you can add a few layers till you get what you want

Personally, I wouldn't weather it at all. A full army in those colors, that bright and all, would be really impressive looking.

Cheers for all the comments guys. I think I will just add some metal chips to the red and be done with the main colours....

I agree a whole army would look cool, I worry how the vehicles would look though in these colours...

Ork improve suggestions?

Awesome paint job, and the scheme rocks. I do agree that the red lacks something.

If you go with red metallic, I still think that you'll need more shading to pop it out. Honestly I can't peg a solution with 100% certainty, so here are a few suggestions:

1. I agree with your friend Andrew on the black, but in a different way. Increase the contrast level of your reds by making the red shadows blend all the way down to pure black, instead of just crimson.
2. Shade the nostrils and underside of the nose. This will go a long way towards bringing up the face.
3. A third possibility would be to use glaze medium with a crimson (or probably darker, to match my first suggestion) paint and use it as a wash. This would be even more valuable over a metallic.

Great job again, post more pics of the progress!

Ork improve suggestions?

I love it. I wouldn't suggest changing anything on the orc itself, as I think any more shading or metal chipping would cause you to lose the look you have going for it.

Though I would suggest something, if I may...Make the base very grimy looking. Paint dirt and mud all over the feet and legs of your Ork (Even if it is ash waste as it is now, I'd say to repaint the base and try it anyway). Not only will this make for an interesting contrast in colors (From Epileptically bright to a dull neutral brown), it will also make for an interesting contrast in styles. Cartoon-esque on most of your model, but hyper-realistic once you get down to the base.

I think that would make for a very interesting-looking model/army. Just my two cents.
