Tyranid list to take on Necrons

I will be playing my buddy next week in a 2000 pt game (my nids verse his necrons). I have probably only 2500 or so points of nids, so my choices are kind of limited. Below is generally what I think he is fielding, along with my thoughts. Any help would be much appreciated. I have also included all the units I currently have.

His force:
One monolith for sure (maybe 2)
Either the deciever or nightbringer
Lord w/orb (maybe in a destroyer body)
Unit of destroyers
30-40 warriors

He also has immortals he likes and sometimes uses hvy destroyers

I am most worried about my ability to handle the monolith and the C'tan.

My list will probably be along these lines:
HQ: Tyrant with wings, 2 sets of Talons, Toxic Sac, Implant attack, and +WS
HQ: Broodlord (Sac and Feeder Tendrils) w/6 stealers w/Talons

Elite:
3 warriors for close combat (claws and talons, +WS, Sacs, maybe leaping)
3 shooty warrios +BS, one with Venom Cannon, other two maybe with either death spitters or devourers
1 Lictor

Troops:
20 termagaunts
30 spine gaunts (probably in 2 groups of 15)
14 Genestealers (again, probably in 2 groups)
6-8 Rippers

Fast:
2 Ravaners
Maybe a unit of spore mines

Heavy:
3 Zoanthropes with warp blast and possibly synapse
1 gunfex (venom cannon and barbed strangler, Chitin, and Senses)
1 shooty/assaulty fex (barbed strangler, Talons, Chitin, Sacs, -the thing that gives you +1 attack at double init (can't remember name) and maybe a few other upgrades.

Other units I have:
12 hormagaunts
3 biovores
2 lictors
plenty of spore mines
some more rippers
a few more gaunts

I can also use the lictors as warriors with claws and talons (have done that in a smaller game and he was cool with it)

thanks for the help (and merry christmas)

Tyranid list to take on Necrons

give your tyrant a warp field...If your friend uses destroyers and you have a winged tyrant he will probably be putting a lot of shots on him early to stop you messing with his army too early on. He's also one of the few units that the c'tan will have trouble catching. Lose the implant attack, just buff him up to deal with the warriors and the like.

To kill a c'tan...hmm i would use biovores with the toxin mines (always wound on a 4+ and he only has a 4+ save). Reasonable chance of taking it out.

I would put another vc in your list. Use both of them to keep stunning the monolith until your 3 zoanthropes get in range to deal with it. Until then use your zoanthropes to put on the hurt with their blast attack.

In this scenario I would definately put leaping on your warriors. Your primary objective is to phase him out. Nids have a hard time against crons. Your only chance of a happy outcome is to engage in cc and rip him to pieces.

GL

So one fex shooting 8 shots, hitting 6 of them (due to re-roll). Wounds on 6's, so 1-2 wounds. He saves one. That's a lot of shooting to take him down. The monolith you can ignore or blast with warp blast.

=)

Ahh but it is most amusing. Dropping the 100 termagants into the fray as well adds in 100 strength 4 shots re-rolling to wounds also that are quite nasty. The Purist Shooty 'Nid force actually kicks all sorts of butt and works against everything.

To the actual army and the models, consider taking the taloned stealers with the broodlord out of the list for normal stealers to gaina whole bunch of points to throw in hormies or the biovores. You can work the biovores in by making the warriors one unit strong with keeping the lictors though trying the 3 lictors in there is quite a nice way to tie up units or plonk into a 4+ coover save area and laugh as you have a 2+ cover saved unit supporting the advance. You have a force that mimics my collection in so far as it is alot of mismatched stuff and not the most solid tooled army as many people would like. If your mate is okay with substituting units then take some ofthe advice above, the dakka tyrants with 2 twin devourers work wonders on necrons takinga pair of them and they just mow through units at BS 4.

Monolith's negate the 2D6 armor pen you only get 1D6 against them even in HtH with MC's. Its one of their special rules, really annoying.

And Auretious Taak is right the BS is only a template weapon not ordinance.

Your best bet for taking down a Monolith, if thats what you really want to do, is either rushing it with a BS+Scytal Fex or a BS+C.Claws fex, the BS+Scytal is a reliable 4 Str 10 CC hits on the Monolith, while the BS+C.Claw is an unreliable 1D6 attacks on it in CC. However, the C.Claw version can get more CC attacks in a second round of CC where the BS+Scytals will only have 3 CC attacks.

I've never fought C'tan, but I've heard he's rather annoying. I'd say just aim at phasing him out, its easier than trying to go full out annhilation. As much fun as that it is.

I'd say take out the lictor and rippers, add in the Boivore / Sporemines and add the rest of your Gaunts and then the Hormagaunts if you have pts left to spare.
