Making a wash or ink from normal model paint?

Is this possible? I only have two inks right now, and neither are the color I need. I need some black ink for the recesses in my marine armor, but I ordered the wrong color on accident and got a medium brown instead of the black. Is there anything I can do to make my own wash using some black paint, or am I out of luck until I can place a new supply order?

Water can work, but when acrylics are thinned extensively with water, they will dry blotchy. Vallejo and Liquitex Glaze Mediums are two common brands. They will let you thin out acrylic paint to any consistency you like, and it will still dry smooth. Check out this article from Brushthralls:

http://www.brushthralls.com/painting-techniques/glaze-medium-3.html

I use Vajello black glaze, and dilute that for all my black washes. You can check the effect by looking at my gallery, or my ork topic. Looks great on pretty much everything, I swear by it.

For black wash I used chaos black with a heap of water until Badab Black came out.

Put a drop of black on a palate (so you can easily see how well its diluting) then just keep adding water until you get the consistency you want.

Washing up liquid will break surface tension and cause it to flow into crevices. Very very small amounts though otherwise you'll just end up with bubbles. I use an empty paintpot, quarter paint, rest water and a single drop of washing up liquid. Works alright for me.
