A Little More Green !

As promised in my Slightly Green thread last week, here is the Snakebite Mob I was planning.

The keen eyed ( or just bored) will notice that the Nob is the Boxed twin of the freebie I used with the Goffs ( minus the hair ). I wanted both mobs to be basically the same with the exception of clan colours. Unfortunately I was still in hacking mode ( I was building the Kobra while painting these ) and I ended up doing minor reposition of 2 Boyz hands, and inverting an axe, as well as small alterations to some of the necks to provide subtle differences in the head positions.

As usual, comment at will.

Da Mob

Boyz 1-3

Boyz 4-6

Boyz 7-9

Nob & Big Shoota.

Still using my cellphone camera, so some of the eyes aren't showing up too well.

Still got 2 mobz to do, any suggestions on which clans ?

Nice Boyz! I like the depth of tone you get on the skin and trousers. and the rust that looks great! Do you use inks?

I also like to make my different squads into different tribes. I try and theme them with their equipment . e.g. Shoota boys for Bad moonz, trukk boyz for evil sunz etc.

A Little More Green !

Regisimus : Thanks. Believe it or not, I only use GW paints ! Undercoat Chaos Black, Basecoat Knarlock Green, Green ink wash, Drybrush Goblin Green. Simple to use on a mob at a time without the hassle of layering.

As for the cleanness, I've yet to dirty up the skin, and the lighting paled out the rest of the weathering, but I usually drybrush from the bottom up using the colour I select for the base to imply dust.

Kaptin Montag : Thanks also. I treat the trousers the same way I treat the skin. This lot used Iyanden Darksun as the basecoat for the trousers with a brown ink wash for shading and another layer of Iyanden drybrushed on top.

The rust is an easy cheat. Paint weapon with Boltgun Metal then grab the sponge from a blister pack and cut it to a rough point. Use this to stipple on brown paint ( I use Snakebite leather with a touch of brown ink for richness) until you feel you've covered enough, then give it a black wash ( 1 part black ink to 3 parts water works for me ) The stippling and black wash combine to give a little texture, after all rust isn't smooth if you look at it closely)

Of course, the colours you use, and any additional steps, are up to the individual, but this approach works for me.

Looking good. I think I am going to use your rust technique, sounds faster than repeated washes when you are trying to batch paint.
Keep up the good work!!

A Little More Green !

Thanks, Stretch.

My method for rust IS quick and easy, but remember to stipple a little on to a peice of scrap paper or something first, it helps reduce the size of the "splotches". Experiment a little before you hit a mini with it so you can find an ammount that suits your taste.
