1000/1500/2000 CSM

Been a little while since I posted, been testin the new rules out, and seeing how I do against both my opponent's new codex (space marines and grey knights) and I've come to the conclusion that fighting against the new space marines codex sucks ;P

Anyway we've been playing threeway "campaigns" so to speak using various different armies each time. Here are my 3 different lists ..

1000:

2x DP - Wings 260

2x 5 Plague Marines - Flamer, Personal Icon 240
2x 5 Lesser Daemons 130
2x Rhino 70

2x 2 Obliterator 300

1500:
2x DP - Wings, MoT, WT 350
GUO 100

2x 10 Plague Marines - 2x Plasma, AC, PF 600

3x 2 Obliterators 450

2000:
2x DP - Wings, MoT, WT, DB 370

2x 10 Plague Marines - 2x Plasma, AC, PF 600
2x 10 Plague Marines - 2x Melta, AC, PF 580

3x 2 Obliterators 450

Yes they're quite cookie cutter .. but I'm OCD like that ;(

Any advice? Thanks in advance.

I think Doombolt should be replaced by Wind of Chaos. If you need some convincing here is a thread about DP configs. MoT looks a pretty good viable second to MoS, LoS. Aswell as MoN, Warptime and MoS, Warptime.

Warptime in general is a pretty good power but the 3 Str 4, AP 3 shots of doombolt really aren't worth it.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/225483.page

Re:1000/1500/2000 CSM

Some good advice, I honestly hadn't even realized that you could reroll in the shooting phase as well as assault phase until I read that thread. Can this be done in the same turn? Like say using Warptime at start of movement, moving, shooting and rerolling with a psychic ability, then charging and rerolling all in the same turn?

As far as the DPs themselves go however, MoT is almost entirely a must for my army vs my current opponents. They have at the very least tailored their armies for taking out my DPs especially the standard Space Marine one. Everytime my DP takes a wound its generally from something that ignores armor, very rarely am I actually making the 3+.

However, I did at one point absolutely love the MoN WT DPs and they do work very well, but not against things like 8 power fist attacks (marnius calgar and 5 termies with 4 PFs) or something like 6-10 las cannons.

Also to my experience, LoS DPs have the capability to fail, and when they do it's quite miserable. I find them extremely overrated, but at the same time they can be useful given the proper situations. Although against these armies, those situations do not present themselves very often. Even still a Lash Sorc seems almost entirely more viable because they can be hidden in troops so that when it fails, it's not quite so detrimental, yet they can still shoot the victim's, and/or spring forth and assault them when it does succeed.

Given the advice though, I may consider doing something like this instead: DP - MoT, WT, WoC and DP - MoN, WT. Having one of each has had it's advantages in the past and I have 0 problem dropping plasma for melta on my marines to make it so pointwise.

Re:1000/1500/2000 CSM

I am curious about one thing though that I asked a while back, but I'm not sure if I ever really got an answer. Having MoT on a DP means that they can use 2 psychic abilities in one player turn. Folks had explained to me that this means they can use 2 different shooting psychic abilities in one shooting phase, and that they can even use the same ability twice in one turn as long as it's not a shooting phase type. I'm not sure I understand this .. what exactly restricts them from using the same shooting ability twice in one turn?

As far as the codex goes, models with the MoT can use two abilities but that it follows the shooting phase procedure in the rules restricting normal models that can only fire once per turn anyway to only be able to fire one shooting phase psychic ability per turn (and also use a second type for it's second ability due to MoT). However DPs, being monsterous creatures, have the ability to fire TWO shooting weapons during the shooting phase, and follow the procedure of doing so twice in a row. So why would they not be able to do so with the same psychic abilities if it's all relative?

Wondering if perhaps this is better for the tactics section though...

Re:1000/1500/2000 CSM

It has been cleared up that MoT DPs can't use two psychic shooting attacks. They also cannot use the same power twice. Really cuts down on the versatility of the MoT DP but it has been laid down. I think it was in an FAQ or something. But if your play group wants to call it differently go for it.

I like the MoN, Wings, WT DP. It does really well, very survivable and takes out large groups of troops or other elites. The MoT, Wings, WT, WoS DP is the one I've been using and I'm about to take into my league starting this month. I did some play testing and MoT, Wings, WT, WoS is a really good combo but lacks reliability in certain situations where a Lash DP would just do so much better. With the list I am running though Lash has no complements so I think the MoT setup I have will do very well. If none of it's powers fail a MoT DP can ruin large squads of very tough units like blood crushers and terminators.
