Help me with ym colout scheme!

Hi, im new to warhammer, and this forum so forgive me if ive posted this in the wrong place and if i sound like a noob.

But, anyway, i just got my blackreach set for christmas and i thought id paint my first few terminators as ultra marines but with my own twist (alot more Gold on the legs and stuff )
They turned out Pretty good but i want my own chapter of marines.

So i panted the next 1 with a lightish Grey with gold and bronze on various trims with a bronze head with an ink wash on it to add shading ;p .. oh and gold drycrush for highlighting.... i must admit .. it looked crap compared .... so im wonderin what i shud try next?

I was thinkin maybe darker grey instead of light grey? ... or silver instead of grey? ... Any ideas will be appreciated.

Oh and the Name might help .. ive called them 'The Equilibrium' ( means 'The Balance' i believe)

Thanks

I find it easier to do a bi-color paint scheme with space marines and do the bolters a metal color and pouches a learlther color. When I start a new color scheme I got to my comic collection and find a suitable set of colors. I tend to do gaudy color schemes though (my Tau are based on Mysterio from Spider-Man). Also keep the marines simple; all one color and do trim/ shoulder pads in an accent. You can also do kneepads, backpacks, helmets etc but try Not to use too much of the accent color unless your doing one of those 50/50 harlequin schemes which I personally have never really liked.
