I am a little hesitant w/ the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(69);'>IG</span> book being redone come May but I figured if I start now...I can get the basics down that shouldn't be changed to much. Honestly...I love them. Always have.....also it helps that my area has Orc and Nid players galore. Soooo that also has something to do w/ it. We have a plethora of Marines too but what can I say? I love flamers<br />  <br />   Any thoughts and comments are always appreciated. <br /> <br />  Ninja Edit: Pwr Weapons are floating around because I had points to spare and figured...why not?]]></description>

				<title>1k IG list, looking to start em back up and looking for advice</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Not bad.  I'd say that if you're buying new units, that shock troops and sentinels are not a terrible place to start, though rumors of recut infantry squads and sentinels do abound.  <br /> <br /> Conscripts right now are not worth it for me; with their <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(149);'>WS</span> of 2 it means that if they get stuck in <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(58);'>HTH</span> they are going to get cut to pieces, and if lose combat by a bunch of wounds, they're going to be testing on a leadership of very close to 2 (even with the officer).  <br /> <br /> Take that 156 points and spend it on something cooler - a vet squad of 5 men with three meltaguns for popping armor, or I'm rather partial to the ratlings.  (10 <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(14);'>BS</span> 4 snipers with 3+ cover saves can put a serious hurt on things with rending sniper rifles.  I've killed greater demons [not in the same turn], I've neutralized dreadnoughts into motionless storm bolters - they can be worth it).  ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[   I'm not to concerned w/ recut Infantry squads...following <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(50);'>GW</span> track history w/ such recuts they will make them 10 man squads w/ a heavy weapon for $30 when I can spend the extra $10's now and get 10 more men<br />  <br />  As for the Conscripts I'd like some more thoughts on them if possible. While the low stats do hurt them I see them as a tarpit unit. And while my commander is w/ in 12" won't they be able to use his leadership?<br /> <br />  Ratlings are a interesting choice and I rather do like them. I don't really look at Sniper Rifles and think they were "nerfed" they just are used slightly differently now. <br />   <br />  Would more 10 Man Infantry squads be a wise investment if I drop the conscripts or should I take another <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(87);'>LR</span>?]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[  I think going above 1k I would indeed toss in the suicide squads, but at 1k how many land raiders will I expect to play? 1 tops?  In my area none of my opponents regularly run Land Raiders at any real point <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(347);'>lvl</span> nor are my opponents what many would consider to be "Competitive" players. I am one of the few who sadly consider a "fun" list to be a competitive list. <br />   As for another <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(87);'>LR</span>, I do really like tanks as well but I think that a tar pit unit is very handy to have, even moreso for Imperial Guard due to our very pedestrian stats. Above 1k more tanks are a must I feel but I can't fit in the Suicide sqauds AND the Leman Russ by dropping the Conscript platoon so if anyone has any ideas on how to fit them in I'd love to hear it. ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ you only have 3 <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(80);'>LCs</span>.  You will not be able to take out vehicles.  Those 3 <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(80);'>LC</span>'s will easily miss.  Then you will get charged by a mounted army, whiff. then die.  ]]></description>

At 1k how many vehicles will there be that I can not destroy w/ <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(80);'>LC</span> fire or Hurt w/ a battle cannon if needed? Sure I might fight the odd Mounted Eldar or Marine Rush army...but they charge, wipe out a unit or 2 and get shot the following turn. <br />  <br />  Would you suggest changing out some Heavy Bolters for Autocannons for the chance to Glance Armour 12?<br /> <br />   If you think i need more I would like to know how to get it. This was the list I just took on and destroyed<br /> <br />  4 Truck Boy units w/ Redpaint + Nob w/ Powerclaw<br />  1 Battlewagon w/ KillCannon + 3 Rokkits<br />  4 Warbikers w/ Nob + Powerclaw<br /> 10 Tankbustas<br />  1 Big Mek w/ <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(163);'>KFF</span><br />  <br />  First turn saw me blow up the Battlewagon(tankbustas were next to it to jump in) and a Trukk while he moved forward and picked off the odd guy<br />  2nd turn I destroyed another truck and shot the odd Ork he than assaulted my Conscript platoon w/ Bikers and boyz and wiped em out<br />  3rd turn I opened up w/ my flamers and basically destroyed/neutered his army because they were bunched up after wiping out my Conscripts. We called it after my Chimera guys jumped out and flamed a bunch of the rokkit boyz<br /> <br />  All the trucks that were destroyed came from the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(80);'>LC</span> and not my heavy weapons in my units.<br /> <br />  I've also fought against a Necron army and Nid list at 1k and have won those as well. It's not easy, I have to play to win the missions and focus fire. So far I'm pulling it out pretty well. <br /> <br />  I'm not trying to be overly defensive about my list, I am willing to change it, but I'd like to know how and why to go about changing various things. To simply tell me I can't deal w/ Mounted army and I will die is not terribly helpful]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ wow, dont toot your own horn.  That is an AV10 open top list.  You can beat that.  Good luck against eldar, or tau or mech marines.  You can swap your two sentinels for a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(59);'>HW</span> <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(80);'>LC</span> squad.  It will give you an extra <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(80);'>LC</span>. OR, you can buy a vet squad with 3 meltas and now you have an extra 45 points.  Drop the 8 flamers and <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(380);'>GL</span>.<br /> <br /> Do not have the book in front of my but off memory that should be 8x8=64 + 3x8=24, may even be 10pts cause I think they are more expensive for constscripts.  that 88 points plus the 45 you already saved.  Thats 123 points. <br /> <br /> Another <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(471);'>DS</span> vet squad with 3 more meltas.   75 points.  Still have almost 50 to spare.  Giving your <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(78);'>JO</span>'s a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(486);'>PW</span> is a good sign that you are inexperienced.  Its a waste.  that will give you 60.  You can get a commissar with a fist.  The only semi good <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(19);'>CC</span> option for guard outside of allies.  Now you have increased your <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(482);'>AT</span> weapons by 7.  Or you can give them all flamers<br /> <br /> OR.  FOrget about the extra <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(80);'>LC</span> team and the Vets.  <br /> <br /> You will have 235 points to spare. get rid of your 2 plasmas and you have a squad of 5 grey knight termies with a brother captain.  As I see it you are wasting about 30% of your points on pointless things.  I would not brag about how well you do against mounted when the army you faced has vehicles as fagile as orks.  <br /> ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[   Was not trying to toot my own horn, and I am sorry if it comes out like that and I realize what sort of list I was fighting. I am not new to <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(3);'>40k</span> and even stated that Mounted Eldar and Mech marines could give me fits which is why I suggested Autocannons over Heavy bolter. So let me ask about various suggestions of yours<br /> <br />   If I swap the 2 sentinels for a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(59);'>HW</span> <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(80);'>LC</span> squad I am not gaining another <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(80);'>LC</span>. <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(59);'>HW</span> <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(80);'>LC</span> squad(for 1 <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(80);'>LC</span>) are 60pts a pop while my Sentinels are 55pts. Also it seems like I no longer see Heavy Weapon squads in most Guard armies because to screen them against shooting gives your enemy cover saves as well. <br />  <br />  As for dropping the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(380);'>GL</span> off the Conscripts is a done deal. I grabbed them for extra blast templates and that is all...they are quite expensive for that use. <br />  <br />  As for my <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(78);'>Jo</span> having <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(486);'>PW</span> I did explain..I had points to spare. 10pts isn't terrible for 2 <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(486);'>PW</span>, even if they are on S3 chumps. Is it worth taking a Commissar w/ a fist? I don't ever see them anymore and they are still t3, s3 for 40pts. Rather expensive for a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(105);'>PF</span> but if you think otherwise, I'm willing to try it out(edit just reread your post and saw that you said he is the only decent <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(19);'>cc</span> option outside of allies)<br />  <br />  With your suggested changes what I am using to deal w/ Horde? I will have my Leman Russ and Chimera to put out shots while I will be rocking 6 Meltas and 3 Lascannons to deal w/ the possibility of Mech. Little to no flamers will hurt against horde. <br />  <br />  As for the allies, that's not a change I can go w/ I appreciate any more help your willing to give but I want a pure <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(69);'>IG</span> force w/ out any allies. <br /> Edit: The more I look at Daemon hunter allies....I think it is a valid option and a good point. It is still fluffy and can add some much needed support to <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(69);'>IG</span> till at least the new book comes out and helps them hopefully become a little more balanced]]></description>

At 1.5k and about I plan to take 1-2 because I really enjoy the model and rules. And thanks for pointing out the Sentinel I missed that and will move it to a seperate fast attack choice for now]]></description>

For 3 Heavy Bolter, and effectively, another Heavy Bolter that ignores Invul saves AND the possiblity if something <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(471);'>DS</span> w/ in <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(4);'>4d6</span> of you to shoot em as they land. Take a 2nd mystic and you can give that ability to someone w/ in 12" of you...say a Leman Russ.  <br />   <br /> <br />  Now if you simply took a heavy weapon platoon composed of Heavy Bolters it's still 150pts....so 11 more points gets you another <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(51);'>HB</span> + Possibly hurting <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(471);'>DS</span>'ers]]></description>

Unless you are running 10 in <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(7);'>apoc</span> THEY ARE UTTERLY WORTHLESS PIECES OF TRASH that look good on paer under only the vaugest of scrutiny. The drop vets are good against ANY vehicle it just so happens that they happen to pwn landraiders.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[  I am assuming this is because of there crappy firing rules(which hopefully will be changed come the new book)combined w/ a dismal <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(14);'>BS</span> of 3.  Which is a real shame because I really do like not only the models but the idea behind them. I will still drop one or two in a list and play around w/ them w/ the hope that they are "fixed"<br /> <br /> Edit: So dropping a Sentinel, and the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(486);'>PW</span>, would give me enough points to toss in a 5 man Vet squad w/ 3 Meltaguns. I'll try it out and see what I think....i know they are a suicide unit and I have seen them used before quite well...only thing I don't like is the whole suicide thing w/ them. I realize, as guard, that it is necessary for various units to sacrifice themselves but I would REALLY hate for a bad scatter/shooting phase. Guess that's why people take 2]]></description>
