Legion of the Damned are now in the Space Marine Codex as an elite choice, so it doesn't have to be an Apocalypse game.

i noticed this style of LotD a few times, how is it achieved? white undercoat with blue washes?

First picture appears slightly blueish, second and third greenish. Just the camera or the lighting, I figure.

Anyway, I am impressed. Once, in a far, distant future, when there are no more armies waiting to be painted, I gotta try doing this.

I agree that a slight hint of colour might give the eyes a point to rest. I'd focus on the eyes/eyeslits on the helmets. Either use a contrast (yellow for green) or stick with the monochrome look and just paint them white. Maybe with some source-lighting from there.

A propos source lighting: Have you thought about giving the base some eerie shine where the LotD stand? I'd even be tempted to use a skull base for those ;-)

I've thought about making the flames more blue than green. I think blue flame is more eerie than the standard yellow/red flame. You can really see it on this one. If course, it's as bright as a chick's myspace photo as well. And no, I didn't play with the levels in photoshop.
