Pre-Heresy World Eaters (updated Feb. 13)

I've jumped on the true scale marines bandwagon and been working on some pre-heresy World Eaters. Ultimately I'd like to do an entire army but for now I've got just a few ready. The modeling and painting is maybe a little rough, but with 40 more of these guys in the pipe along with some possibly biggerized vehicles I can't afford to spend too long on each guy. Hope the images work.

Assault marine:

Marine with ccw (chainaxe) and bp:

If there's any interest I may start a painting/modeling log. Also, below I've included some shots of the true scale legs in the construction phase. I know making the legs can be tricky if you don't know where to start so hopefully this can act as a jumping off point for anyone interested.

1.) Start with termie legs and shave off all the details the sculptor worked hard to put on there:

2.) Start chopping. I cut it into the feet, lower legs, upper legs and groin. I also bisect the lower legs. Make sure to preserve the plates on either side of the waist:

3.) I add spacers, which are just pieces of plasticard cut to size. Two in the lower leg (shin) and two under the upper leg (thigh). I messed up on the legs here and left out a spacer:

4.) Use a pin vice to drill holes through the upper leg, groin and part of the lower leg. Then string all the parts together by running a paper clip through them and gluing them in place once they've been properly positioned:

5.) I start building up the legs with green stuff. Usually this goes in 4 drawn out steps to make sure each bit has enough time to cure:

6.) Here's a completed pair of legs. Add detail work to the armor if you want. I sometime do but more often forget and just smooth it all out. I've added a bit of ribbing between the legs and groin, and green stuffed any gaps in the feet that invariably come from cutting them free:

Hope that was informative. This method takes a while and definitely isn't as quick as the styles which just use terminator legs as-is as marine legs, but here you get more flexibility in their positioning and can do kneeling legs, running, jumping, etc.

Better than I could do! Great job! The blood effect looks very real, and the paintjob isn't as sloppy as you think. Very nice modeling and scheme!

How'd you get the legs so smooth? Very nice!

Oh, and biggerised vehicles sounds like a pain, but probably well worth the effort!

MOAR!

Agreed, the shins are a bit thick, though they seem to be distorted a wee bit in the photos. Maybe the bulkier look just doesn't bother me so much. Marine models have always been too weedy to represent their T4 and 3+ save anyway.

Great job on that, btw - looks great! The studs on the shoulder pads look a little big (on the second one the studs look cramped on the pad), but otherwise, very cool!

Re:Pre-Heresy World Eaters

(how do I get this moved to the P&M blogs section? Mods, lil' help maybe? thanks)

Two more World Eaters done, for those interested. They're both going to be part of a 10-man assault squad without jump packs but in a drop pod. Obviously this is part of a much larger and ongoing project, so I'll be attempting to move this into the Project Log section.

The running man:

The light on this guy is a little low, and... a mold line! Blargh.

I promise the next few will have a little more variety to them, though I really do like the way those skull helmets (skullets?) work for World Eaters marines. I'm also gonna try and work some pouches and other gubbins into the models.
