Question on the aftermath of close combat

Well, had my first real game of 40k last night. The beer didn't help our poor attempt at trying to decipher the "sweeping advance" move.

His marines beat my orks- OK
Orks fail morale test- OK

Now- Do the orks fall back 2d6 inches first, leaving the marines in place? Then we do a d6 roll off for the sweeping advance check? If the orks lose, they are all removed. Does he then push his marines up to the point where the orks "fall back" move landed, as though they had caught them? And then is he allowed to make a consolidation move?

Or, do you make the sweeping advance roll off BEFORE the orks make the 2d6 inch fall back move, and if they are swept then the marines stay in exactly the same place? And then they can make a consolidation move?

We ended up doing it the second way, but I'm not sure if it was correct... (he has the rulebook at the moment so I can't check while sober)

Thanks very much for your help!

Question on the aftermath of close combat

If the orks number more than 10 than they take no retreat saves equal to the number of wounds they lost combat by.

If the orks number 10 or less then they take a break test with a negative modifier equal to the number of wounds they lost combat by. example you lost by 2 then you take a break test at 10-2=8

If you fail your break test then you roll 1D6 and add your initiative and the marine player does the same. if he fails to catch you by equaling or beating your score then you roll your 2D6 inches fallback move and the marines consolidate.

If the marine player catches you then your orks are wiped out.

so to sum up. you make initiative roll of and if you win you make your 2D6 fallback move.

Thanks for that, we spent so long trying to work out what was supposed to happen I think we probably lost a turn's worth of time flicking wildly through the rulebook!
