1850 Thousand Sons

SO I have been thinking about Thousand Sons recently and came up with this list:

Hq
Ahriman

Troops
9 Thousand Sons, 1 Aspiring sorcerer with Gifts of Chaos, Rhino
9 Thousand Sons, 1 Aspiring sorcerer with Gifts of Chaos, Rhino
9 Thousand Sons, 1 Aspiring sorcerer with Gifts of Chaos, Rhino

Heavy Support

3 Obliterators
3 Obliteratos
2 Obliterators

Comes out to 1846. I know this is by no mean an uber competitive list, but I think it would be fun to use and is not a push over list. I have seen from experience that a few successful uses of Gifts of Chaos will break an enemy assault unit and that is the idea behind giving it to the sorcerers. I am open to any suggestions on how to improve, and any comments at all are much appreciated.

Do you actually have all those spawn models?

Doombolt or Wind of Chaos would probably do better on them. I see doombolt kill things and Wind can break an assault before it hits you sometimes. But you need good timing and good slow and purposeful rolls.

No, I do not actually have the Spawn models, nor do I have any thousand sons Models. This list is just an Idea. I know winds of chaos would be great for melting some terminators or genestealers, but I am more worried about getting rushed by MCs. Gifts of chaos could really pay off if I manage to turn a C'tan or Bloodthirster into a Spawn.

Re:1850 Thousand Sons

A very circumstantial 1/6 chance is not something that you should be relying on to win you games. While it seems like a good idea it almost never works out that way. Doombolt, Bolt of Change or Wind of Chaos are all far less circumstantial and will probably serve you better.

Monstrous creatures probably wont bother you that much anyway, since you have 9 oblits, 4 force weapons and everything has an inv save.

Once you get rid of the Gifts i think it will be pretty good.

Re:1850 Thousand Sons

Revised List:

HQ
Ahiriman of the Thousand Sons

Troops
9 thousand sons, Aspiring Sorcerer with doombolt, Rhino
9 thousand sons, Aspiring Sorcerer with doombolt, Rhino
8 thousand sons, Aspiring Sorcerer with doombolt, Rhino

Heavy Support
3 Obliterators
3 Obliterators
3 Obliterators

Thoughts? Taking doombolt and one less thousand son makes room for another obliterators, but I am still not sure if this is the best power to give the sorcerers. What do you guys think? Do you have any experince with this?

1850 Thousand Sons

well look at the spells
doombolt 10 points gets you mor inferno bolt shots ok works well with other shooting

winds of chaos. this keeps people from bunching up in cover to protect themselves from the ap3 bolters

gifts expensive for a chance to rock somebody most likely a fail

bolt well you have your anti tank covered

warptime make sorcerer into a pretty good fighter.

bolt keeps him cheap. wind makes him scary warptime helps in combat.
being in a rhino I would go with wind.

1850 Thousand Sons

I've really been thinking that you just have to bite the bullet and really kit out the sorcerers. The other thing I've been thinking is that t-sons getting a full round of shooting can then have the ability to still do a fairly decent assault afterwards.

I've been pondering something like this.

HQ
1	Sorcerer w/ mark of tzeentch, warp time, winds of chaos, melta bombs

Elites
3	Terminators w/ combi-meltas

Troops
8	Thousand Sons
1	Sorcerer w/ warp time, winds of chaos, melta bombs

8	Thousand Sons
1	Sorcerer w/ warp time, winds of chaos, melta bombs

8	Thousand Sons
1	Sorcerer w/ warp time, winds of chaos, melta bombs

Heavy Support
1	Land Raider
1	Land Raider
1	Land Raider

But if you are going to stick them in rhino's and you plan on getting some rapid fire goodness with them, I'll second going with wind.
