Someone bought an epic Squiggoth/Orkisaurus off ebay Australia for $121! That's right - over 3 times the retail price from Forgeworld.

Someone is going to get quite a shock when it arrives in the mail!

Whether it's a scam or not depends on your point of view. Should potential buyers know that what the single word "Epic" in the description means? Should sellers be pressured to include size information especially in cases where there is a risk of confusion, etc.

On the other hand, Epic is not a valid scale description. The game has been out of print for some years and it's probable that a lot of newer players have no idea it exists.

It's not out of print. The auction description clearly states that it is and Epic miniature, even going to far as to suggest a unit type that's only available in the Epic rules. Well in this case he's listed it as being 'epic', given the weight and a picture, I don't think there's an attempt at deceit. But I've seen worse examples.

I've seen large items apparently being sold for smallish amounts and been confused for a while because if you open the item description it mentions nothing of Epic, it does not mention it in the title or description at any point but look to the top of the screen and in tiny print you'll see...

"Toys & Games > Wargames & Role-Playing > Warhammer > Epic 40,000"

And that's your only clue to it's scale in the whole thing. Easy enough to miss when you're searching eBay as a whole and not specifically browsing the Epic section.

We had this whole discussion with the "sprues missing" from a "complete" model. It's obviously one of a number of dirty tricks some sellers use and telling people they should be 'more aware' when buying things isn't good enough in either case. Genuine mistakes always get made by buyers and seller, but that doesn't mean we should provide shelter for some sellers to deliberately mislead. Sellers should always be clear about their product - the fact that some people defended the 'sprue-missing' seller on the basis he was technically playing within the rules made me sick.

There's this weird mentality that scammers are widespread on eBay and something to be tolerated, if you get burned it's just a lesson to be learnt. This is amazing,

Regardless of any other 'clues', if the seller wants to be totally up front and honest about what he is selling, he should provide hard facts rather than rely on buyers' supposed ability to make inferences from external knowledge he may not possess.

If I were selling such an item, I'd make it very clear that it's for epic and not for 40k, but that's just me.
