Pre-Heresy Question: Fellblade

The Fellblade, it's a pre-heresy Space Marine Baneblade to be simple.

I'm really wanting a super-heavy in my SM Apoc force and a Baneblade seems in my price range (I really want a Warhound, I hate being poor) and I was thinking that I could say and convert it into a Legion Fellblade, the only problem is my force isn't pre-heresy.
My SM where founded on a pre-heresy Mechanicum planet that was destroyed by an unknown force and I was thinking a Fellblade might have been recovered from the destruction and brought back to life by the Ad Mech (who are in close ties with my chapter)

Do you think this idea would work? Are there many Fellblades out there? (in the 40k universe and people model collections) or do you think I should just make it a Baneblade?

I've been planning an allied IG army for a while so the Baneblade could have come from them, what do you think?

(Sorry I won't be able to reply for a while)

Pre-Heresy Question: Fellblade

As I understand it after the Heresy the Fellblades were taken away from the chapters.
Now there is no reason that your chapter might not have saved a bunch of Ad Mech guys at a foundry and been gifted one as an award I suppose. Since it would only be one of them, and would only be used when the entire chapter was engaged in battle (IE Apocalypse) I think it would be fine.

The more important fluff question is how does a space marine chapter get it into battle, since it is too large for a Thunderhawk.

Pre-Heresy Question: Fellblade

elijahdprophet wrote:The more important fluff question is how does a space marine chapter get it into battle, since it is too large for a Thunderhawk.

The same way Guard do: a larger drop ship. There's no reason to believe that every single Storm Hawk(larger, older drop ship mentioned in the HH books) in the Imperium was destroyed and even if they were, there's no reason why the same Ad Mech faction wouldn't also gift a craft large enough to carry it. Or perhaps there are special Bane Blade Drop Pods like Titans have.

Pre-Heresy Question: Fellblade

Man, a titan drop pod would take out a 2000 point army by landing on it, I would imagine. I wondered how they got those things planet side, I always figured they shipped them down in parts.

Pre-Heresy Question: Fellblade

Nope. One of the HH books talks about them dropping Titans to the surface. Huge pods that sink into the ground and take a massive crew to retrieve.

Pre-Heresy Question: Fellblade

If you're concerned from a fluff perspective, the problem with a Fellblade is that it isn't a strike weapon. Space Marines are a strike oriented force. The Banebland and it's variants are for entrenched warfare.

After I read that HH book which detailed titan drop pods, my first thought was "I've got to build one for my titans!" But really, just think about how hard that is. I also like that the Imperial guard would then spend weeks and months after a battle packing up equipment like that.

Pre-Heresy Question: Fellblade

And packing all the gear back up is a good reason for SMs to not have a Fellblade or other big equipment. SMs are not supposed to spend a month or two packing up their Fellblade, they're supposed to be off fighting Xenos scum! If the chapter had adequate serfs and bondsmen, I could see a single techmarine staying behind to oversee the operation. But, then, they'd need a separate transport ship.
