Druidic wrote:So thats not man sized powered armour but a "mini Mech" of some form? Explains the anatomical issues with the groin then!

It is a man-sized power armour. It's 40mm tall, not 400mm tall. The suit is described in the book that inspired this model as weighing 1,000 pounds, and I am not a fan of the padded shoulder look, so assumed that the weight would go onto lengthening the limbs for greater powered stride and reach. Hence they are longer in the leg. The hands and feet of the infantryman stop well above the remote feet and claws of the suit.

Unlike some other power armoured fellows out there, these guys actually fit into their suits. Aaron designed them using a sketch of a adult male human and built the armour around him. It took quite a while actually to get suits made that looked good and also fit on a human body. It's easy to make one, or the other, but not both.

Anyways, enjoy!

dumbuket wrote:I really don't like the model. Mongoose already did the SST ape-suits a lot better than this. They just look like strangely proportioned space marine rip-offs.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but these were not in any way influenced by GW Space Marines. In fact, Aaron and I both wanted to make a power armoured suit that was dissimilar to the GW product, because there's obviously lots of that available already. We looked at no GW sketches or products in making this.

They may appear to be "strangely proportioned," but they are designed to be heavy but not mega-bulky like sci-fantasy models. The limbs are longer but they don't have giant shoulder pads because there isn't any point to that other than to appear massive. If you look at a fullsize model of a GW space marine, if it exactly matches the 28mm models it does not appear plausible because it is not plausible. I have no problem with that, models are models after all, but wanted to provide an alternative.

Mongoose made a nice product for what it was, but their models were based on the movie and then a cartoon, and IMO the items did not resemble in any way the troops and weaponry of Heinlein's story. And I think the massive wide look, between those grizzly suits, the Terminators, etc, has been done to death.

Thanks balance. I actually wanted these to look businesslike, your basic power armour weapons system. To provide a contrast to the more characterful sci fantasy models.

I also left detail as sparse as possible rather than adding lots of doodads on them, under the assumption that the best weapon system is one that doesn't have lots of things hanging off of it. But also so that those who like to superdetail their models can have lots of space to do so without having to remove existing surface detail.

Cheers!
