meh, not that impressive compared to what they're capable of. Pictures of sprues are on dakka somewhere (sorry don't know where). Vulture parts not included, if i remmeber right there's a choice of missile pods or fuel tanks though.

The kit seems to come with just multiple rocket pods and hellstrike missiles, no fuel tanks as far as I can see from those sprues, which is a pity.

Most fascinating is that it doesn't seem to have changed much in comparison to the FW model, it's really close and in fact I don't really see a difference at all, personally. It's not like the baneblade, a side by side with a FW one and you can tell the difference.

Gives me really high hopes for future models, though I expect Tau won't be getting anything as cool as that.

Try playing Tyranids, where every super heavy/ big kit is designed to simply mow down your numbers advantage with, well, every weapon they mount. At least Tau can shoot back and hurt something...

BrookM is spot on - there are no fuel tanks in the kit.

US$58 is the last I heard. It's £35 in the UK which is the same price as either Land Raider box, but the US have the weird thing where the Redeemer is $50 but the regular Land Raider kit is $55. So it might be some weird US pricing thing.

That seems a bit of a stretch. Both are buildings that are vaguely triangle-y and have a tower, but that's about it.

Right. I said the same thing in the other thread from speaking with a manager saying $50 was a pricing error. I'm guessing that GW is trying to take advantage in the US-pound conversion rate cuz otherwise everyone would just buy from one or the other.

edit: /\/\/\ The release sheet I saw at the store had $50 but was crossed out and had $58. Manager said that was correct as far as he knew. If one of the iron fist or THT visits that store I suppose they can confirm or get a clarification.

Unfortunately this has nothing to do with personal preference. If it was, i would said "its awful IMO".

Why is the left side cropped off ? No one takes dynamic shots for products that is set in normal poses. It defeats the whole purpose of it.
Sure, was the crop meant to convey / support with the right side of wing comming out of the frame? Giving the feel of it "leaping" out of the pic at you?
Nice idea, bad execution, it looks like its going cross wind , which then again it doesnt make sense with the angle its presented at because it takes
away the swooping look it had.

Also could have used heavy metal lvl painting ( atleast their usual quality )

This isnt about personal preference , its about presentation for a product.

I'n not sure when ウ" (Katakana V) was added to the language but it is fairly recent, last 20 years or so. Video for example is 'biideo'. My text book didn't have the V sound either, I remember the first time I saw it, it was like everyone I knew was a lie.

Japan has been experimenting with adding new sounds to the language within the limits of the hiragana/katakana alphabet. For example you'll sometimes see katakana 'de' with a small 'i' for 'di' sounds since Japanese doesn't really have a di (they come out at ji). There's a genreation gap in that younger Japanes can usually hear and say these sounds while older ones cannot.

When I was teaching I made a lesson using katakana 'ra' with two dots to represent 'la' and then used diagrams of a mouth to show the difference and finally had them do pair work on sentences like "this is the wrong long train" or "I eat rice but I hate lice" to get the idea across.

Anyway back on topic:

Anyway this is a Kedia (note the De+small I) Komando Sukaado. Like I said, very lazy translation. I don't think I've ever seen kanji or hiragana used to name a GW product. I can only imagine how terrible their rule books are.

Most of the Japanese players I know have read the rules in both Japanese and English and very few rules disputes come up. Not more than you'd usually expect to find in a club anyway so I guess that the core rules translation is pretty accurate. The names may be incredibly lazy but there is a big advantage to it from my perspective. I can point at my orks, say "now I'm firing my big shoota at your tactical squad" and be completely understood even if that person has no idea what any of the words I just said were other than "orks," "big shoota" and "tactical". Similarly I can get a well of rapid fire Japanese directed at me and so long as I can make out "lazu kannon" and "dehu koputa" I know why he's rolling a dice.

Waaaaay off-topic now.

It's a box, woot. I never really liked the valkyrie design or kit but I guess it will be nice for guard players. Hell, I may loot it for apoclaypse games.

Actually I read the Japanese codex all the time ( omg im sorry GW! )

They usually have 2 names for every unit. 1 name for katakana ( direct sound ) name ,
and the other in kanji / hiragana mix ( the names they are used to )

The reason you'll never see hiragana or kanji for the english name is ,
thats exactly what katakana was created for , Its a signal to tell you its an foreign word.

True that, but from what you say GW is limiting itself to the subset of players who can and are willing to read the rules in English and missing the market of Japanese speakers in Japan.

If a Chinese company wants to market a game in the US they would NEVER name their products 'Taikong Haijundui' they'd name them Space Marines.

Granted English penetration into Japanese is greater than Chinese penetration into English but you get the point. Sure names like Cadia need to be transliterated but things that have ordinary names in Japanese should be translated, not just turned into katakana gibberish.

Of crouse there is a certain cred to using foreign names. 'The samurai with the naganata attacks the ninja with the katana' is much cooler than the 'Japanese knight with the Japanese pole arm attacks the Japanese assassin with the Japanese sword'. But to people in the 60s who'd never heard of Samurai, ninja etc the first sentence was gibberish.

(knows WAY too much) actually katakana was originally 'man's script' while hiragana was for women. Later Katakana was used for gramatical particles like 'wa' 'no' or 'ni' and for omanopia (sound effects). Katakana for foreign script is fairly recent (post war? certainly post Meiji) which is why tabacco 'tobako' is usually written in hiragana. (/knows way too much)

It's interesting that they do have a proper translation in the books. Are they on line? I'd love to see them. My fear is their idea of translation is "Shutingu fazu ni daisu wo roru shimasu".

As you can see normally they use katakana on specific terms often used in game.
Followed by Translation in Hiragana or Kanji.

Very minor point, but in the context of the thread it is worth pointing out that it is Keedia (or depending on which convention you prefer, Keidia). The first syllable is extended, as per the western pronunication.

(for those reading the thread who don't speak Japanese, "ei" or "ee" sound more like an "a" sound in Romaji. You know how you pronounce an "e" in "egg"? Just draw out the "e" sound.)

Maybe next year, with the next Apocalypse wave will we see a Direct Only deal pop up with plastic storm troopers and Valkyries bunched together along with a datafax allowing for an airborne company along the lines of the Elysian drop troop formation.

I would've hoped so too, but we never got the three Drop Pod deal that everyone wanted, and there's still no sign of the three Baneblade deal that was supposedly coming out either. So my hopes are fading. Maybe with Planetstrike?

Why would they have a 3-pack deal for a new kit? Won't make sense since all of you will buy it anyway, while having the excuse of "at least it's cheaper than the original forgeworld price!" for cognitive dissonance.

I threw ten Land Raiders into the basket and get a twenty quid discount on top of their already low pricing. If they ship for free to the bogs that I call home I might have to order all my guard swag from there.
