Dawn of war and premeasure

With a dawn of war scenario, when you come in off the table edge, can someone premeasure from one location and move to another if they don't like that spot or is it if they premeasure thats where they come in now they have a 180 degree area to premeasure to for movement.

This probably isn't too clear so i will give the scenario on what happened. Playing with one of my friends with the DOW scenario I was wanting to move in with my assault troops but wasn't to sure where i wanted to go based on how far i could move and charge etc. The argument from him was that if i was choosing to premeasure from a certain location thats where i had to come in from and from there i could premeasure the 180 degree area around that. The rules are not very clear on what can and can't be done in that instance, when you premeasure can you do it anywhere on the table edge you come in on or do you have to declare the location you come in on then premeasure?

The rules say you can measure before moving.
The rules do not say you must declare where you are moving from.

So I would say you were fine.

Ah, but the rules for moving are assuming the models are already on the board.

I would say this measuring from various points is bad form at best. After all, one could use such premeasuring to "accidently" premeasure ranges for the shooting phase immediately following.

"My outflanking deffkoptas are turboboosting 24" onto the field from here... no here... no HERE!"

If you measure the 6 inches and guesstimate distance from where they would stop to the unit they would attack from there, it would be cheap, but i dont think it breaks any rules, that way you still get to figure out the best place to enter from without blatantly cheating, regardless of how cheap it might seem.
