[PICS] Vindicator weathering suggestions...

Hey all. Thanks for looking, i finally updated my Blood Ravens army with a lovely vindicator, its pretty much done besides a few touch ups but i want to weather it, now not as extremely muddy etc because my army is themed in an urban combat zone etc, so looking for a mid battle look such as some leaks, chippinging, battle damage etc... does anyone have any tips and suggestions would greatly appreciate it (and general C&C on the model itself).

Front

Side

Side2

Back

misc.

misc.

misc.

misc.

Feel free to vote aswell.
oh and my gunner obviously prefers a pistol then a mounted gun HORAH!

Awesome paintjob. I wish i could do that

Bullet holes are always an obvious one for battle damage. I used the pointy end of some scissors for my dreadnought (he was plastic though, if this is metal, perhaps a rivet popper if you're feeling brave).

I find that watering down some boltgun silver (gray?) and painting it wet onto the corners of the panels makes a good weathering look. Aside from that, maybe a couple of scratches from glancing hits might look good.

Oh, but don't overdo it. Too much damage just looks scrappy

Good luck

OK dude, I think I'm pretty good at getting weathering down; so here we go:

For simple weathering, go grab either Devlan Mud or Gryphonne Sepia washed. Devlan is a great wash, Sepia is more orange. Or get both and splosh them on together! :-)

For rust, I get Bestial Brown and paint in into a couple of corners, or anywhere that would conceivably receive rust.
Don't be too precious, it has to look organic and random. Your options now are A) Overbrush some Mithril Silver onto the same area, paying attention to any raised surfaces where the rust would "rub off"...
or B) build up the rusty colour by stippling (blobbing) on firstly Burning Orange, then Fiery Orange.

For dirt, get some PVA (white) glue, and bang a load all over the bottom of your tank. The treads, the tread guards, the dozer blade and back door. Now dip your gluey tank into some sand. Leave for an hour or so to dry. Paint this Vermin Brown. Wash Devlan Mud.
Drybrush Snakebite Leather.

For small muddy streaks, just use Snakebite Leather overbrushed onto various areas; it has a great muddy colour!

Bullet marks, scrapes etc are ace on tanks. They look best if you're willing to actually damage the tank. Dig a few holes, scratch it with a hobby knife etc. You don't have to, but it looks best.
Whatever you choose, the painting process is the same.
Paint the area you want to look damaged (or the damage itself) in Tin Bitz, going slightly bigger that the damage itself. Once dry, paint Boltgun Metal inside the Tin Bitz, leaving about a 1/2mm Tin Bitz outline to the silver. If you want it to look a bit aged, wash it with Devlan Mud or Gryphonne Sepia.

You can further age the damage by having "streaks" of orange or Bestial Brown running down from the damage, like the rusty stains you see down old cars.

The last one is smoke. Get a Scorched Brown and Chaos Black mix on a large drybrush, and boff it around the engines, fans, exhausts and all smoky outlets.
Then do a pure Chaos Black one, with even less paint on the brush.

Good work on the tank dude. Keep posting!

[EDITED FOR SPELLING]

For serious battle damage on plastic models apply a hot soldering iron. You can make nicely melted holes to represent energy weapon strikes, as indicated below:
