Landraiders, when your not using them, are gay....gay gay gay. wtf! If I could I would roll them up in my katamari of doom!

So what are some good way to punch a landraider?

And/Or what are some of your favourite ways to take down one of these f**kers?

Personally I like to walk up from behind cover with nobz in mega armour or equipped with power claws. Sporting a warboss in either group helps a lot!

It really depends on your army. Orks have a hard time dealing with Land Raiders, especially since it's way better to destroy a transport in the shooting phase than it is the CC phase.

Marines probably have the easiest time, because they can easily fit a really good number of stand-alone multimeltas into a list on attack bikes or land speeders without heavily impacting the rest of the list. Vindicators are decent because the large blast has a hard time missing a target so big, but the fact that they aren't AP1 hurts.

Chaos has Obliterators for multi-meltas... and that's about their best chance. Infantry squads or terminator squads with multiple meltaguns can work, but the extremely short effective range means that you won't be destroying the tank until after it's already accomplished its goal. Vindicators, again, are decent.

Tau have rail guns. The OK chance to pen (1/3) combined with AP1 and ridiculous range makes this the number 2 AV 14 killer in the game.

Guard have suicide melta squads, and are about to get some very good options for AV 14 busting. Devildog!!

Orks are pretty much SoL, but they are so good in so many other aspects they do need a weakness. Warbosses with Klaws, Kans, and Deffdreads can bust AV 14, but only in CC, which is suboptimal.*alertalertalert*Some players use Deffrollas combined with ram attacks to do multiple Str 10 hits to AV 14. This is a highly controversial tactic, is murky in the rules, and according to most "authorities" (Jon Spencer, INAT FAQ) does not work.

Tyranids are pretty much stuck with HtH tank busting

Necrons have a hard time of it, but heavy destroyers are like lascannon... so capable but unreliable due to lack of AP1, and only penning on 6. Regular Necron weapons can hope to slow a tank down by glancing the crap out of it though. Worked against my Land Raider in the last tourney I played

Eldar have Bright Lances which fall in between a rail gun and a lascannon. They're only AP2, which is a HUGE hindrance when trying to bust tanks, but they pen a land raider as often as a rail gun. They also have melta guns, but no multimeltas, which have the same benefits and limitations as imperial melta guns.

Dark Eldar have cheap and plentiful dark lances.

There are other armies, but they kind of fit into one of the other categories.

Against certain builds, such as railgun-heavy Tau, fast multi-melta heavy space marines (both of which are fairly common builds), and Dark Lance-heavy Dark Eldar (easy due to cheap and plentiful Dark Lance platforms) vehicles can be more of a liability than an asset, no matter what AV they sport. So no, Land Raiders aren't really unfair.

When you are facing things like a 4 landraider list and the enemy isn't presenting any better targets, there's no reason not to take the shots with rokkits in your boyz groups. Granted, they'll only connect once for every group and glance on only 1/6 of the hits, but whatever. Better than not shooting them at all.

The Big Mek can certainly make it disappear, but is usually better geared toward templating groups of units. There's nothing quite as satisfying as rolling 2 sixes and watching two fully loaded land raiders sitting next to each other disappear from the board taking their payload of terminators with them, though. Can't count on him, and he'll blow up taking nearby squads of your own guys just as frequently, but he usually pays for his measly 100 points. You can usually make your points back on him the first time you template a group even at random strength roll of 3 since he ignores armor, so the rest is just gravy.

Summary - You have a ton of options. Your *good* options are mostly CC based, and that can be limiting on a fast moving land raider where you are forced to hit on 6s, but a fast moving land raider isn't nearly as dangerous shot-wise as a slow moving one, so there is a small light at the end of the tunnel. Don't forget that you aren't locked in combat when you charge vehicles. You can always get the +1 attack and str bonus on your PKs by shuffling away and shuffling right back in. And even a fast moving vehicle can't typically get away from your klaws once you get up to them the first time, so expect a steady stream of womps against its hull after you connect.

We Hate Landraiders!

My kid, who plays Tau, one time turned 2 land raiders into scenery and took out a couple of rhinos full of troops as well as most of the troops inside in the first turn. The other kid he was playing against put on a frown and quit after the first shooting phase. I think he almost cried.

I don't think this guy is of the belief that no army can beat land raiders. Clearly orks , which he presumably plays based on his forum title, have a deficiency, particularly in long range attacks, for dealing with AV 14. It is a limitation of the army, and one that is pretty difficult to overcome, particularly with how many shots crusaders continue to pelt you with while you try to put them down. And let's not forget, they tend to drop off units to put down the things that get close enough to them to pose a threat in CC. I know that when I actually put one to bed, which is unfortunately not always a guaranteed thing, I always breathe a sigh of relief.

If an opponent puts several on the board, I have to start making excuses about why I am sweating (oh, that air conditioner must be out again). A few good rolls with any of the above units, and the all-eggs-in-one-basket effect starts to kick in, dramatically shifting the game in the ork player's favor very quickly. With the strength 10s you have reasonable odds, strength 9s you are hoping for flukes, and strength 8s you have settled for the final resort of a scoundrel... prayer.

If they are worried about getting shot alot, then they can always pop smoke, which means means you need double the firepower for the same results aginst it...with only getting glances on a 6, that will take a lot of shots. Also, competitive lists that run LRs varients, usually run at least 2 (if not Chronos).
