Hi there!

This is my first ever 40K army, in its current state of construction (most everything but the 2nd DA squad is painted up). I'd appreciate some critique. I'll post some pictures in another forum soon. Basic tactics = Guardians sit tight on objectives, DA bladestorm light troops, Shadow weavers template light troops, WG shoot heavies, WL shoots tanks. Harlies and Solitaire counterassault nasty units. Jetbikes nip round the back and annoy folks. Farseer optimises all those dice like the helpful psyker he is. Simplistic but there you go.
Excellent list.

A few suggestions though;

Swap the diresword for a dual-avenger-shuriken-catapult thingy for the respective exarch. Give the warlock you have the conceal power. Give the second guardain squad an EML* (*= Scatter lasers are great TL or with BS4. Blast templates are better suited to BS3). Loose the 4th guardain-jetbiker (you still have to take a morale test on one casultie so that extra bodie does little/nothing to fortify the squad.. making it cheaper makes it less of a worthy target + free's up points). Get fortune in addition to the powers you have with your farseer. Use doom & fortune to keep either the avatar/DA's/wraithguard alive until you get close..then doom + guide to unleash monsterous amounts of damage. Get kisses for every harlequins. 12 more points.

6 things, but really minor changes to optimise what you've come up with.. and as an eldar foot slogger force, its pretty good.

Thanks for the tips! I can't actually make all those changes and stay within 1500, but if I drop the 4th jetbiker (and it makes sense) it gives me 22pts to upgrade the harlequins, guardian SL to EML, and upgrade the DA exarch to shimmershield/power weapon. I know you suggested the twin catapults but the free 5pts can't get me anything else, and that 5+ invulnerable can come in handy in staying alive!

I don't have the points for it, but why Conceal for a unit of 3+ save WG? I could drop RofWarding and take it on, but I'm not convinced.

Side note: how do people feel about the default weapons on the new Harlequin models? I sawed of all the fusion guns (and I got a duplicate in my box, grrr!) and replaced them with pistols from other sprues, but I hadn't the heart to go about constructing kisses for them all. Can I just say that they all have kisses at the start of the game? Or is that lazy? Can I count the Shadowseer's staff thingy as a kiss? Does 'counts as' stretch to wargear, & not just entire models? I'm a new player so I'd be interested to hear what the consensus is.

Just say they have kisses, I don't play eldar and from a distance probably couldn't tell what the pistol was anyway. Not sure on the shaodow seer question.

Conceal grants them a 5+ (?) cover save. That way you can move them freely and not have to wory about AP 3 wepons completely destroying them.

Re:New player: 1500 pt footslogger Eldar

Okay.. conceal is not really required with wraithguard set up as you have them. Large squads, as troops, rarely gives you the points to buy even more bodies to shield your wraithguard hence the 5+ coversave is to allow them to act automi..somthing (Autominously?) but with the large amount of troops your fielding.. simply bank on that 4+ cover saves via your other troops.

So no, runes of warding isnt worth loosing..as it protects you from every active psychic power, to some degree, in the game... when compared to the minor benifit I realise that would you net yourself from the conceal power. That said.. do try and give the warlock somthing (spirit seer is always worth it due to the wraithsight flexibility with the wraithlord & easily worth one measily dire avenger), other than that.. If a dedicated assault unit runs into a bunch of str 5 T6 models and finds them to be WS5 & I5 aswell.. it could easily deter those assaults in the first place or allowing you to fight your way out of them and giving you the oppertunity to shoot again! Other than that, destructor is always a fun power.

The shadow-seer can be given a harlequins kiss and if the model comes stock-standard then simply let the other player know what the model is equiped with. As for lopping off weapons and replacing them with others.. not including kisses is a very tiny form of proxy and should not matter against any player worth playing. Anyways its not like the harlequin boxes come with models fully customiseable (as you would have to buy about 3 boxes to do that) and again its like like your using guardains to proxy as wraithguards (which arent even the same size). So yeah, everything should be fine with the way you wanna do things.

Jeez, I write too much.

Not convinced of the utility of the wraithguard, youre using them for anti heavy, at which rapers will do more for less vs MEQ, and dragons will do more for less vs TEQ.

Also, if theyre behind your troops to get the 4+ cover, then they probably arent in 12" for their guns.

Id drop them, I havene t really seen them used amazingly effectively.

if the harlies are countercharge, get them a jester so they can do something while sitting around.

Hell, drop the wraiths for Maugen Ra. hes awesome, will do better killing and countercharge. stick him with the harlies, ad hes invulnerable past 24".

adding a warlock makes a shadow weaver BS4.

Re:New player: 1500 pt footslogger Eldar

Making the cheapest Blast weapon at the eldar's disposal BS4 is foolishness. Perhaps for a D-cannon but even then, its not worth it as those things are expensive as it is and vibro cannons worth best in 3's (str 6, as a must) which with 3, you'll easilly roll the one hit required.

Dragons are weak & require transport. Theres a reason you dont see small elite teams (or larger full squads) on foot.. they'd die in droves & for points coming close to a marine, its not worth it.

Hm.. unless you get 20-30 & an avatar.. Chunk in a few dragons breaths (which your avatar is immune to) and that could work.

Thanks for the tips, as this is my first force it's totally based on the models I have, I haven't even painted it all yet! To be honest, maxed out WG would take up so many points that it would change the list completely. The small squad I have have actually performed quite well so far, so I'm happy to keep them there. But I take your point about Fortune. Shadow Weavers are cheap, but I'd love to fit in another WL. Is there any point trying to have an anti-infantry WL? 'Cos that's really the Shadow Weavers' role. And why are four troops units too many? (5 actually, counting the bikes) I'm not disagreeing, I just thought that the more objective-claiming units the better? What is my army lacking, role-wise?
