Need guides and examples for desert theme armor/sentinals links or pics please?

OK Dakka Tread heads, I am working on my Tallarn for the umpteenth time and getting close to working on my Armor and sentinals. I am a fan of the Modern US desert sceme ( mostely because its simple and I have ALOT to do) I am not opposed to a camo style pattern as long as its stays simple. I have most of my armor Based with Testors SAC Bommer Tan spray, its the foundation color I like but I am pretty much stuck there. I want a simple color sceme with the detail in the weathering and unit markings. I plan on adding details like bed rolls and fuel cans etc, to add color and detail with out taking away from the desert colors. I also have the tamiya wethering kit A and B but honestly have no clue how to use them. If any of you have pics or links to sites with this sort of stuff please post them, the step by step ones with pictures would be best. Any help is appreciated and I will be posting some pics of the infantry soon. Thanks in advance guys.

Here are some pics of the infanty I am working on, I have to do the faces yet and a few weapon touch ups, but for the most part these are done to the level I intend on doing.
First up a command squad. The guy in the back left will have a banner pole and Flag added at some point. The one in the back right was an autocannon loader that I converted to carry a Vox unit.

A squad of basic men, these were done many years ago and I just got over whelmed to try to do the mass army I bought so they sat in a box till recently. I was doing all white head wraps but am not sure I want to stay with that on 60 plus infantry. These were done with Ral Partha colors. I updated the guns with reaper Gunmetals as I like the "bluing" look it has.

This is a more recent batch of guys done mostley with Vallejo and GW colors. I updated some of the guys with different color pants and tried out a few differnt clors of head wraps. I like the look but am a bit concerened they will loook rather "motly" at times with the differnt head wraps, though it dose break up the unit well....not sure on that.

The last of the squads I have that are close to being done, I did all these wraps in the white with an update technique, but still am afraid they are a bit boring. Like I said all these squads are not totaly finished they still need there face detail done or fixed and I have a few weapon touch ups, a little base work like shurbs to be added yet as well but for the most part they are done.

I have 3 more Infantry squads like this about 85% done, 2 my HQ one including The special Character, a hand full of priest and commisars and some where in the neighberhood of 30 heavy weapons teams to do. THEN its on to the Armor and Sentinals I started this topic with.....so you see where I am going. What do you guys think abot the head wraps? Stay all white or do the mixed up ones, I would be interested to hear what ya think.

Thanks for lookin

Dip it into the color you want to use. Swirl it around a bit until the color sticks to that spade.
Then, kind of smush it onto the specific area you're going to weather. Smush down real hard on the really defined edges.
Done that?
Okay.
Now, use the brush end and take the material that you just weathered, and drybrush it across. Clean up as necessary with a tissue after it's dried.

I'll get the pictures of the building I was weathering later, and show you how it'll look.

Alternatively, you can apply a drop of water to the color while it's still in the container, and then use the brush end to do finer details.

Can't help ya, I did my Tallaran in Cheetah Spots, great for disruption, lousy for blending in...

If your looking for books check out Osprey's books on Lawrence and the Desert LRPG, pretty good in terms of color schemes and kit, it's why a lot of my stuff ended up with Sand Channels racked on the sides..

The biggest problem I see is that there's really no *set* desert colors. Deserts vary so extremely that you can't really have a set pattern.
The most common is the 3 color "chocolate chip" pattern that the US used, or the British DPM-Desert.

Those will usually have:
A tan background.
A khaki/brown mixed color as a camo streak
And a color alot like camo green as an overlapping camo streak.

The US version also had those same colors, with the disruptive jags and a bleached bone colored series of spots blended into the brown camo streaks.
