First tip: invest in a small file set to get rid of mold lines, it makes a huge difference. The paint job looks pretty good for your first one. Now just take a lighter shade of your base color and drybrush/highlight edges and anyplace light would hit. Great job and keep us posted.

Pity about the fingerprint on the sword.

That is a very good first attempt, some people paint for years and not progress to, let alone beyond this level of work.

Thanks guys!

I'm gonna do a highlight soon. Going to mix some bleached bone with the base color

Also I had thought I got rid of the mold lines, but they really came out in painting :/

Same thing with the finger print, I guess i accidentally grabbed it while it was drying to move it...oh well

Thanks again! I'll post follow ups when I finish the highlights

For your first mini this is very good,as said mold lines & highlights need adressing & you should drill out the barrels on the stormbolter, but overall...a great first attempt.

Looks great - especially since it's your first fully painted figure! As mentioned before I'd probably work on the highlights. Looking forward to seeing the final result.

Not a big fan of the base color as it's kind of drab. In any case, some edging will help define it a little better and if you can freehand some lighter iconography on the large shoulder pads, those would really stick out. Alternatively, use decals.

Yes a good dry brush of a lighter mix is great advice.

And once you get the mold lines taken care of you can spend more time painting. We all know the paint job is only as good as the prep work.

1. Water down your paint. 2:1 paint/water

2. Quick highlights, add your light color to make a medium highlight for dry brush, then more light color for your brightest highlight.

When starting the paint scene, dry brushing was magic to me. I really don't think advice telling a new painter to "freehand" and "line" armor is fair. Gotta work you into advanced techniques.

THANX FOR SHARING UNCLEHOMEFRIES!

Keep us updated!

It looks like you tried to drybrush the bolt gun areas, but they came out very splotchy, and you got some bolt-gun metal on the model's hand.

Instead of drybrushing, try painting the boltgun metal on regularly, then apply a badab black and/or devlan mud wash, then highlight. Doesn't take much time, and the result is much nicer.
