My first 40K force: Craftworld Eldar (Pictures)

Hello Dakkadakkies!

Here are some images of my Craftworld Eldar (a craftworld of my own devising, as yet unnamed). This is my first ever 40K force; my current army list can be found in the following forum post:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/235463.page

I'm going to try and take some better photos when I have more time, the light in these is a little cold and I couldn't find my tripod so there's some hand shake...oh well. Let me know what you think.

HQ:

Farseer:

Solitaire (conversion in progress, counts as Avatar)

Silent, enigmatic, and desperately dangerous, the Solitaire embodies the secretive struggle between Cegorach and Slaanesh. This model will count as my Avatar, when I finally finish it! He's almost assembled, I just need to sculpt over the cloak on his back. The body is from a C'tan deceiver, cloak and head from Troupe Master, sword from Dire Avenger Exarch and Wraithlord parts, tassel from WL. Getting the head off the Troupe Master was the hardest part. Can't wait to give this guy my best paint job ever!

Troops:

Guardian Squad 1

Top-down view

Guardian Squad 2

Guardian Jetbike Squad

Dire Avengers and Exarch

Elites:

Wraithguard with Warlock

Harlequins (in progress shot)

Heavy Support:

Shadow Weavers:

Wraithlord (in progress shot)

So...I'm still trying to paint my force up to 1500pts. 5 Harlies nearly done (Shadowseer still to buy), Wraithlord and Solitaire still to paint. Then buy and paint just one more DA squad and one more EML team, and that should be my army finished, in its first incarnation. Obviously it could be much better in gaming terms (see the army list link at the top of this post), but reaching 1500pts is my goal for the moment.

Comments are very welcome, as always!

Joel

Re:My first 40K force: Craftworld Eldar (Pictures)

Thanks!

Yeah on some of the older models the paint is quite thick (this army was started ages ago before I went to university, and I'm only getting back to it now), on newer stuff like the Harlequins and warlock only the white is thick, intentionally. Close up (and these photos aren't great either) it can look a little tacky, but at table-top distance it makes them oh-so-bright&shiny and Eldar-ish, if you'll excuse the profusion of technical terms

I like your Solitaire/Avatar conversion, where/what is that sword from? Is it the wraithlord sword? Also I like your wraithlord, good weapon choice, I actually didn't think of it my self (dunno why) and from that angle you've now inspired me to make one with a brightlance arm (as in it's continuous from arm to lance) and an arm mounted missile launcher. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Happy Painting

Re:My first 40K force: Craftworld Eldar (Pictures)

Thank you! The sword is in three bits: the top part (the so-called 'pointy bit' ) is the Dire Avenger Exarch Diresword with the hilt cut off. Below this is part of the wraithlord sword, from the crosspiece up the blade about 1cm. Below the hand is the hilt from the WL sword. There's a little spacer between the fist and the larger crosspiece so it can align properly. I made such a complicated weapon partly because I like the double crosspiece look (a little like the two handed swords of German Landsknechte), also because the proper WL sword was too big, it looked silly.

Glad you like the WL, I tried to make him a little more dynamic than the standard out-of-the-box pose without the need for putty. Bit of knee slicing worked fine. And he is holding the brightlance pistol fashion, but I see what you mean, from that angle it looks like a single attachment with no hand. Anyway, good luck with yours!

Dude - love it. There's been a resurgence in the Eldar lately, and I like that. Your paint is really nice, I like the style. The Solitaire Avatar is a nice idea - I saw a Deceiver Avatar a while back but didn't like it. I think perhaps the small head looks a little strange, but in this instance I think it works - besides, ther'es precious little you could do about it.

You've painted an impressive amount too - how long did this lot take you?

EDIT: BTW I bet it kills you that the plastic support weapons are out, huh?
