New & Effective Army Setups?

With the new guard codex coming out this week, now seems the best time to discuss new and effective army setups.
The first and most obvious one which I have no doubt most of you have come across is the Airborne Assault…

"Airborne Assault!"
9 Valkyries, loaded up with infantry (mostly vets and storm troopers) and 1 command squad.

This is just one of the many new and solid army tactics that has come from the new codex.
So now I’m curious to know if anyone else has come up with some very Interesting & Nasty army setups with the new guard Codex?

Re:New & Effective Army Setups?

I'm sticking with the traditional mechanized style with lots of AV 12. Mostly chimers, hellhounds and then adding a few Battle tanks for their boom sticks. Also Marbo looks like too much fun to pass up.

As for 9 Valks that doesn't strike me as that solid because that is 3 squadrons of 3 vehicles meaning that most of your army will be in 3 places on the board shooting at 3 targets/turn until they disembark. Although the Airborne concept does seem to have created alot of buzz. I'm sure a middle ground with it will prove to be very effective.

New & Effective Army Setups?

I think maxing out the firepower with guard will be hard.

The squads are oh so tempting but that is only 3 targets that a lot of points are devoted to, and unless you pay for pask, they are still BS 3, crap.

Balancing infantry and armor will be a challenge for guard players.

You get too much armor and you end up wasting points on three vehicles that can fire on only one target; or a lot of AV12 pieces of crap that are just loaded with dudes.

Get too much infantry and you start having just too much stuff to really stay out of hand to hand.

I think vehicles should make the majority of the units but CCS's with heavy weapons seem tempting to me.

Vets are a must when running guard, and maximum 1 platoon of normal humans.

Ld7 is not fun to toy with when you are paying 250 base pts for 50 dudes that may just run off the board.

It will be hard to say what will and will not work until people play with the guard for a while. This is a good thread to keep alive though, in the coming month or two
