Alucard56's Journey into Descent models

Hey all after listening to a few D6 Generation episodes I decided to pick up the game Descent: Journeys in the Dark. For those that don't know about the game it's like an advanced version of HeroQuest (although I still haven't played it yet). Opening the box and seeing the sheer amount of miniatures inside I knew I just had to paint them all.

The first problem I came across was the plastic wasn't as hard as GW's plastics so cleaning the mold lines off takes a bit longer especially on the small parts that bend like the arms and weapons. The second problem for me at least was that the bases were tiny and some weren't flat. I decided to remove the bases and pin the models onto some GW round bases. This also game me the opportunity to use some plasticard to make the bases look like dungeon tiles.

So far I've only painted a beastman and one of the Hero models, so there's still heaps to do (I've probably bitten off more than I can chew). So here's a few pictures I've what's done so far:

First up is a beastman, he's the first model I painted for descent. Not much to say on this one.

The second model I painted is the hero model Runewitch Astarra. I decided on a completely different paint scheme than her picture. The scale on the dscent models is a bit all over the place with the hero models being alot smaller than I'm use too. Her head is tiny so you can't really see it in the picture but I did do her eyes with pupils!(very frustrating). Overall I'm happy with the model but the paint is a bit to thick on her face giving her a very joker like face in real life.

Lastly here's a picture of some work in progress models. On the second beastman model I've altered his right arm a bit and given him a bit more hair with some grey stuff. The wizard on the right I just added some hair. The middle model is the second hero model I've started. After putting him on his base his shield is surpose to be in the ground so I had to add some more sand to make it look like it's buried after I base coated it.

While I've been working on these models I've had the crazy idea of converting some Warhammer fantasy models into the descent models since so many of the models could be replaced with similar ones(this could be a very distant project if I ever get around to it). Well that's all I have for now with lots more still to do let me know what you think, more to come.

Hey all, small update with some wip pictures of the second beastman and Soiceiei. After painting the robe red I slapped myself in the head as in descent the red models are used as stronger versions of the basic models. The idea was to paint red parts on these models. So I guess now when I get around to painting up the red models I'll need to remember to paint one in the standard colours.

Quick update, I've finished the second beastman and Soiceiei. Started work on the second hero but I did something a bit different this time around by finishing off the base first. Haven't tried this before see how it goes I guess.

Deff Dread red Edition wrote:Very nice,if you don't mind me asking how much did the whole set cost.Oh and Welcome to Dakka.

Thanks for the comments Deff, I ordered the original box set Descent: Journeys in the Dark from a local gaming store for about $120.00 Australian dollars works out roughly to $87.00 US dollars. The thing to remember is this box set is huge and comes jam packed full of stuff. Here's a link to Fantasy Flight Games for those interested: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=5&enmi=Descent:%20Journeys%20in%20the%20Dark

Re:Alucard56's Journey into Descent models

Here's a couple more work in progress models. I've added a bit of grey stuff to the razorwing to vary up the models a bit. I added a spine ridge all the way up the head (can't really see it from this angle) as well as giving his eyes a more sinister look. The teeth could be a bit over the top but I hope with some paint they'll work out.

The one on the right is a another hero model named Ispher, back to my idea of converting some warhammer models into descent ones I think a Lizardman skink would be a great stand in for him/it? I've also started painting the second hero Trenloc the Strong, not to much done other than a coat of red paint and a wash of badab black.(Still wet in the picture ) I probably should space out painting the heroes a bit more so I don't end up painting just bulk monsters at the end.
