WIP Valk

For the most part it is done but I need to do markings, nose art, weapons and the base (which I am not sure whether or not I will be using).

Based w/ an airbrush and then weathered with acrylics, oils and powder. I like how the engines turned out. I'm still playing with a lot of these techniques and used the FW masterclass book for reference.

Asmodeus wrote:Such a nice paint job... but why didn't you remove the mold lines?

Sigh.... I had a $100 bucks that would be the first comment. The model is just practice on weathering and airbrushing for me. I have no excuse other then pure being lazy.

I didn't drill out the gun barrel up front either.

I think as far as practice went, you did great. I just don't see why you'd want to put that much work into the model, if you're not gonna go all the way, you know what I mean?

You spend X dollars on the model, you spend Y time putting it together, you spend Z time painting it, why not make Y just a little bit bigger to make the model look that much better?

I'd even have so do the inside, paint the two gunners. Pure nonsense. : D

Sometimes it is just a hobby with a means to an end. I work on the things I want to work on and I am lazy on other things (please don't look at the landing gear either ). I'm not saying it makes sense but I'll sell this on Ebay and will cover the expense of the model but not my time. I don't sell a lot on Ebay, just here and there. There is a diminishing return on a finished and painted model that stops me from "going all the way".

I had fun air brushing on mine. Very well executed. Did you sponge on the black chips? I can't imagine hand painting all those.

Superbly done model. Excellent weathering effects and job.

I have two gripes with the model and they are very minor, probably only something an old airdale like myself would notice.

1) Weathering streaks on aircraft actually streak to the rear of the aircraft.

2) As much as I know the fluff, I have a horrible ime with the idea that aircraft are made of anything that rusts, so body panels and areas around them would not have rust stains. *shrug*

Otherwise, those are my two gripes/opinions but I'ld give ya a slayer for it in a heart beat.

Re:WIP Valk

Thanks for all the comments.

1) Yes... the chips are sponged Chardon Granite. I find this technique is about placement of the chips and touch. Too much and it looks like a glob of paint. Too little and it looks like a mess.

2) This was done using the FW master class book techniques. It is a great book but there is a some trial and error in the techniques.

3) Weathering start to finish was about 2 hours only. The oil paint washes go pretty quick.

4) too right about the rust. I was actually going for a "leaking oil" type look but the color wasn't deep enough when thinned making it look rusty.

5) I tried a couple of streaks on the wings but nothing solid. I'm considering going back with the air brush in a couple spots to try.

6) This is only the third model I've tried with these techniques. First two being baneblades.
So the learning curve is actually pretty quick.

Baneblade1 - Serious issues with my washes on this one. All acrylics, no oils
http://jgemrich.smugmug.com/gallery/4646649_N7kTJ#446321245_x7GNQ

Baneblade 2 - much improved.
http://jgemrich.smugmug.com/gallery/4646649_N7kTJ#511779061_zgx8C
