Total Noob Question

I saw a thread about WYSIWYG that didn't really answer the rookie question I have.
Which upgrades can be/must be physically represented on the model? For instance, if I give my Deffkoptas the Bigboom option, is there actually a little bomb I need to stick on the kopta? Or do I just say, "This dude has a bigboom. Deal with it." Does the little bomb even exist in the modeling world?

Thanks for humoring a freshman, guys.

Total Noob Question

You should focus on the primary weapon/or significant equipment that the unit is using. If you can, add as much other extras that they carry. But the primary weapon is critical. What people don't like is a unit carrying a storm bolter, and they are told that it is supposed to be a flamer, or a plasma weapon.

Total Noob Question

Little extras like grenades, ribbons, marks, etc, are usually held of little consequence, as long as the major bits are there. It is a better idea to model as many options that you may choose to take on the same model from one battle to the next as possible, and point out any big options not taken as they come up. For tournaments, however, you usually want to have everything you say you have on the model.

Total Noob Question

While I'm not a big WYSIWYG-follower (time, money and other hobbies get in the way!), if you ARE going to try WYSIWYG then all optional upgrades should be modelled, so that your opponent knows that they are there.

In your example of a deffkopta, a WYSIWYG kopta should have the correct main weapon (Big Shoota or Rokkit, preferably shown as twin-linked, but not needed) and yes, some kind of Bomb to represent the Big Bom upgrade. If you buy a buzzsaw upgrade, it should really show some kind of extra big choppy CCW

Weaponry/equipment that a unit always has should be modelled, but is less needed, as the opponent knows it is there. (e.g. twin-linked on a koptas main weapon - if you just put one rokkit, a kopta ALWAYS has a twin-linked weapon, so thats fine)

Re:Total Noob Question

I tend to lean in favor of WYSIWYG.

For your question If it has the upgrade but no other koptas have it then you need to model it on there so you avoid the accusation/forget that the bigboom guy is dead already. Use an extra stormboy pack, or use greenstuff. If you give all the koptas the bigboom upgrade then I'm a bit more willing to except not having it on there.

I wouldn't bother with adding frag grenades to every single SM as they all come with it standard. However don't tell me mid game that that missle launcher is a flamer...if its a flamer use the flamer model...

Ok. You guys cleared that up for me. Thanks!

Here's another one for yall to answer:
Mad Dok Grotsnik. He has a power klaw. He has a 'urty syringe. Do these things both count as CC weapons, giving him an extra attack?
And when his attacks are made, do I--the Ork player--say I am using his S8 (from the PK) or the 4+ (from the syringe) to wound? Or what?

Am I even making sense here? Or am I just thinking about this too hard?
