2500 Night Goblins

I'm planning for a 2500 point, special characters allowed, tourney in September and have come up with the following list.
It is about as well rounded/hardcore I can make it without going fanatic spam...

Skarsnik

Goblin Big Boss, BSB, light armour, raggedy red banner (reroll failed painic in 12 inches)

Goblin Shaman, Level 2, 2 dispel scrolls

Goblin Shaman, Level 2, Staff Sneaky stealing (turns an opponent's power dice into a dispel dice for me)

30 Night gobbos, full command, 2 fanatics, HW/Shield

30 Night gobbos, full command, 2 fanatics, HW/Shield

30 Night gobbos, full command, 1 fanatic, spears/shield

29 Night gobbos, full command, 1 fanatic, spears/shield

30 Night gobbos, muso, 2 fanatics, short bows

30 Night gobbos, muso, 2 fanatics, short bows

2 Snotling bases

2 Snotling Bases

5 spider riders, muso, spears, shield, short bow

2 spear chukkas with bullies

2 spear chukkas with bullies

8 squig hoppers

8 squig hoppers

Giant

Giant

2500 points on the nose.

Or I can drop the 2 units of snotlings and add a second spider unit and the spearman I had to drop.

Basic tactic is to drop the R&F units, and the snotlings centrally (snotlings for quadrant capture or redirecting the enemy), the spider riders behing some terrain, then the squig hoppers and giants all on 1 flank to form a nigh on unstoppable hammer/distraction force, essentially to make my opponent react to me by focusing on the flank, whilst the rest of my force marches forward to drop 10 fanatics into him.

Re:2500 Night Goblins

A great list. This should suck up good comp scores like Grom at a buffet. You have a lot of everything and it is still a good lst. One question though...why bother giving spider rders bows? Gobbos can't hit the broad side of a squig at two paces, and it is unlikely that the few bow shots will do much. Just curious.
Oh, and I love giants! They are awesome! Ok, maybe not awesome, but random in the best ways. Not much can take a two giant charge. Unless you roll 'pick up' twice. Good stuff!

2500 Night Goblins

The reason I take short bows is flexibility.

I always use them to run through forests and when I peek out the far side I get to kill a couple of models. Also helpful for when I get behind/to the side of an enemy unit and am acting in a marchblocking role, I can pump out some shots.

Spider riders, have been in almost every game so far absolutely awesome. And it is their flexibility that makes them so.

I did run netters at the last tournament in my 54 models unit of HW + Shield.
Absolute gold when Karl Franz and inner circle knights were thumping me with St 3 attacks after the first round of combat.

To be honest it is too expensive an upgrade. 25 points and I'd take one in every unit in place of one of fanatics.
However I specifically need lots of NG units with >20 models to ensure Skarsnik gets as many shots with his halbard as possible (If I set up properly, 7 st 6 shots)

Fanatics are a double edged sword.

Most canny opponents know how to trigget them early, but people just seem to forget to when I'm playing against them.

My self imposed limit is 1 fanatic per 250 points.

They kick ass vs dwarves, elves and cav armies but suck vs horde armies and EOG stegadons. :(

fabbes wrote:Kinda hard to trigger them early when you play Warriors of Chaos ^^

Want to buy a cheap flying unit...

2 x5 model units of chaos hounds = 60 points, only 10 points more than great eagles and able to release more fanatics.

Also fanatics struggle now because they die as soon as they hit terrain. Why they die whenthey strike a hill that every other model in the game saunters over without restriction is beyond me. With lizardmen I love to put units into forests and then the fanatics get released as the units pass by. And my forest hiding unit is safe.
