Orks vs Gunline

With the new IG codex out now I (as an Ork player) am forced to come up with a new way to face a gunline. I'll be honest, I despise gunline players because I think it sucks the fun out of the game and makes it degenerate into rolling dice but that's irrelevant. I need a way to consistently get me into combat with a gunline without breaking bank (I'm not buying 100 Stormboyz or Battlewagons.) What I was looking at was taking 20 Stormboyz with Zagstruck (one of the only times I'd take him,) Nob Bikers w/Painboy and Warboss, multiple small groups of Lootas, and a couple 30 man Shoota Boyz mobs (to make them really focus to earn 1 kill point.) These are some of my ideas but I'm not all that experienced versus gunlines so if anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated.

Go for the Kommandos with Snikrot; since playing against a gunline is boring, you want to discourage the other player from even trying it. Snikrot will force your opponent to play mobile or die, whereas a massive horde to weather the fire will simply encourage him.

The faster you get orks into their lines the better you'll do. Some kommandos could be a good way to silence anything that your opponent deploys too far away from the rest of his army. Or at least tie up a unit that would otherwise be shooting the rest of your army. Kommandos are only 10 points each, so you don't need to worry too much about throwing points away.

I would really love to know how much terrain you are using. 25% of the board should be terrain.

Pure gunline really does not work, but IG (and other shooty armies) can have a static element in their army that kicks out a lot of firepower.

Your best/cheapest option is Deffkoptas imo.

GoofyAce wrote: I'll be honest, I despise gunline players because I think it sucks the fun out of the game and makes it degenerate into rolling dice but that's irrelevant.

What is this game but dice rolling? As an ork player, I dont think I like anything more than playing a gunline player. You hit their lines and cause all sorts of havoc, what isnt to love. I am wondering what your army build is like where you are having these sorts of problems.

Despite that, I recommend against Zagstruck. I ran him for a bit, and he never seemed to get the job done. The ability to charge on the turn you DS is nice, but you only have slightly more than a 1/3 chance of landing where you want him to, so that he can strike, and most IG players love allied Inquisitors with mystics so that they can shoot the stuffing out of deep-strikers before they land. Snikrot is fun, if a bit situationally useful. Myself, I would just get two mobs of trukk boyz with red paint, fly forward 19 inches, and hope for the best. They are going to be the target on the field, and it is difficult to wipe out 2 squads of 12 models after you pop their transport, esp. if you give the nob a BP to reroll the LD check. Even with nobs w/ PK bp. 2 trukks full of boyz is only 300 some points, and trukk boyz have uses against all armies.

Saying that they shouldn't do this is like saying orks shouldn't assault. ORks cause lots of dice to be rolled when they assault, so by your logic ork players should not play orks in an assault oriented fashion...

Different armies have different play styles and strengths. IG's main strength is their static firepower. Sure it can be challenging to face, but belittling someone for playing their army the way it was meant to be played seems rather absurd.

As for dealing with gunline?

1. Commandos w/ snikrot

2. Lots of deffkoptas with big bomz (flank with them and zoom don line full out to get invul. save dropping giant templates on huge masses of enemy infantry)

3. massed lobba batteries

I usually add these three elements into my lists if I expect to face a static guard army.
