Seriously, I count my own work as table top quality at best, and am thrilled to get 6’s and 7’s for votes on my models on this forum (I consider 8+ means pro, and 10 is Golden Daemon standard). But even my modest efforts could wipe the floor with some ‘pro painted’ Ive seen on ebay.

Seeing some of the amazing work on this site and others (CMON), I feel the prevalence of ‘pro painted crap’ out there, makes it more difficult for actual quality to be found amongst the dross.

Am I unreasonable in my frustrations? Am I alone?

Ive had a little too much caffeine today, maybe I just need a lie down…

Well, technically "pro painted" means painted by someone who gets paid for their painting services. However, did you ever take the time to consider that the ebayer may simply have been lying in the description of the item?

A Note on "Propainted" Miniatures

"Propainted", to me (and MANY other people I know/have talked to), is the first sign to skip that auction. Everybody and their mother thinks their stuff is "propainted" and they list it as such. Generally, I have found that either;

* The seller is lying. He put "propainted" in the title to garner more hits.
* The seller is stupid. The models are not very good or table-top standards at best. Either way, I can paint better than most "propainted" auctions I see. I am no where near a "pro."
* The miniature is actually painted to standard that exceeds most people's skill with a brush. This truly is a professional-looking paintjob.

In all three cases, "propainted" is a death sentence for your auction, in my book. [ed:Emphasis mine] Even in the third case above, the model is likely too expensive to be worth it for me. I prefer to paint my own stuff anyway!

But yes, misleading auction titles are rather unfortunate. On my recent auction (and Ive bought a lot recently, some painted, some not) I always intended to strip the models anyway - so painting quality was irrelevant. It just bugged me.

As a side rant, Ive bought some very badly assembled stuff on ebay too - including a rhino that was assembled by a ADHD 6 year old who clearly hates models. i've seen some auction that includes "forge world" tag in their sales when there is absolutely 0 FW items in it.

Cheap gimics thought up by desperate sellers with no integrity. Like vahallan said , its death sentence for the auction .
