Help sculpting faces

Hi folks,

last night I had my first go at sculpting a face. I've played with sculpting on and off for a year or so, but never done anything major. I managed a few pith helmets for my praetorians and a few touch ups on conversions and the like, but I've always avoided faces. The human eye is so good at recognising faces it makes them an intrinisically bloody hard thing to recreate.

Anywho my first attempt wasn't a complete failure, but it certainly doesn't look like anyone I know. I just wondered if anyone has any advice other than practice lots (which I shall be doing ). My main issue is getting crisp details at this scale. A hard edge on an Ogryn's helmet is easy, it's huge, but getting a sharp cheek bone or crisp lip curl is a little beyond me at the moment.

I'll have another go tonight or tomorrow and try to get it slightly smaller, this one is about the same size the old catachan heads and a bit large to go in amongst my cadians. Would love any hints and tips though. Oh and thanks to Col Gravis whose work inspired me to have a dig

Cheers,
Si
