Seer Council with a twist...?

Hey Dakkites,

I currently run mech eldar, though I'm not running with a seer council. I was wondering if the following would be a viable council in a 1750 list or if people considered the point sink too much to justify it.

1 Farseer: Witchblade, Doom, Fortune, Runes of Witnessing, Spirit Stones, Jetbike = 170 pts

1 Autarch: LaserLance, Jetbike = 120 pts

5 x Warlocks: 3x Embolden, 2x Enhance, 2x Witchblades, 3x Singing Spears, Jetbikes = 276 pts

The basic idea would be to group all of them together. The Farseer Fortune's the group; the warlock's enhance knock the Autach up to WS7 and I7, which is a little absurd. I'm thinking 5 Attacks from the Autarch on the charge at WS7 S6 (due to the lance) and I7, with the Warlocks and Farseer there to hopefully use their initiave 5 and 6 to mop up anything left over. Seems solid and survivable enough, but...

I'm having a hard time justifying sinking over 550pts into what essentially amounts to my HQ choice. That just seems way too expensive for a group that only has a 3+/4++ and only 7 models strong. This could easily get dropped by just a few shots from some high strength weapons due to the low model count. I could mitigate that by upping the squad to 10 warlocks, but then I'm looking at damn near 800 pts.

Have people included Autarchs in the seer councils they run, or is this just too expensive a unit to field. I could see this in Apoc games. But 1500-1750 games it just seems too expensive.

Thoughts or comments would be great. Thanks guys.

You can get more attacks out of your autarch if you give him the Scorpion Mandiblaster as it adds +1 attack ; you can also give him a CC weapon and he gets an additional one as well.

That said its a very good unit although if you are going this route just take a basic farseer with Fortune as long as he is casting fortune you are good to go.

I know. Thats not the issue. He's WS 6 and I6 to begin with. The single enhance bumps him to WS7 and I7, but the two enhances are for redunancy/casualty selection

I would just go with the tried and true and give some warlocks the flamer thing which I cant remember right now. Oh and you need to give your farseer runes of warding to fight off psykers very excellent against IG and their Psyker squads.

I'm used to keeping doom on there as I use it as a Force Multiplier for the Howling Banshees I run as well. But that begs the question, if I include this style of CC unit, should I drop the Banshees?

And as for the destructors, thats adding more points into the unit, that already looks freaking expensive.

For the price of the autarch you can get a few more warlocks which will leave your other HQ slot open and give your unit more staying power and more CC power. The autarch can be singled out in CC since he is an IC, and he's only T3 for Instant Death, while the warlocks will pump out more attacks, wound more consistently, and not have to have doom cast, leaving you free to cast doom on something else.

Re:Seer Council with a twist...?

The autarch adds in a -I killl yooou- ability to the squad. Otherwise certain types of high-armor troops will just mwaha laugh off all those 2+ wounding hits with 2+ saves.

Id drop 1 enhance (not essentail, simply useful) and 1 embolden (one redundancy is enough) and get two destructors. Drop all the singing spears - all those witchblade attacks on the charge (you get more of them if you drop the singing spears) should horribly mutilate even tough walker armor. Concidering either your own high WS vs walkers AV10-13... Or the need of 6's to hit AV10-11 armor (if a vehicle travels fast) on a large amounts of attacks, you'll do fine. Even AV14 will fall due to the high number of attacks (if the vehicle hasnt moved v.fast)

The squad should now have enough templates/shuriken catapults/massed CC attacks to deal with hordes, enough combined high-wound attacks & str6 power attacks to deal with 2+ MC's & other high save troops and it should have enough powerful str9 cc attacks to deal with virtually all armor. Clocks upward of 570ish points but.. its a death unit.

Seer Council with a twist...?

Going barebones with Farseer and like 7-8 Warlocks with only the necessary upgrades seems to be the way to go. You can fit 2 seer councils into 1750 that way.

Somthing like
Farseer, Fortune, Runes of Warding, Jetbike
7-8 Warlocks on Jetbike, 2 Embolden, 1-2 Enhance, 0-3 Destrutor.

Fortune is necessary for a rerollable 3+/4++.
Runes of Warding is for Anti Psyker (Lash Prince, IG Psyker Battle Squad, Space Marine Libby etc)
2 Embolden for rerollable leadership you don't want to run or fail fortune.
1-2 Enhance for the additional weapon skill. This is sort of expensive points wise so not necessary to have 2 although it is nice.
0-3 Destructor. This is personal preference. Heavy Flamers are nice but you don't want to kill so much you don't get to assault. Really depends if there is alot of Hordes in Your Meta. Not necessary if your pinched for points.

Doom and Spirit Stones is not really necessary. You can add another Warlock for the cost of Doom and Spirit Stones. You are wounding on a 2+ with Witchblades. Doom is not necessary unless you are running like Dire Avengers or something else in your army that would benefit from Doom.

Autarch does add more punch but does Autarch = almost 3 more Warlocks?

Witchblades are better then Singing Spears because you get more attacks in close combat and combat res is based on wounds.

The Seer Council is the best unit in the Eldar codex. Just try running 2 of them as specified. Really mean.
