In certain situations I may end up just breaking him off, if I need to lash something else, or bunch them together for the blastmaster, otherwise I can keep him in the squad to protect him and just lash the unit im shooting at further away from me, in that case the shooting handled at the same time is advantageous, because if they're at max range I can shoot him and lash him at the same time, and lash him farther than 24" away, so he has trouble shooting back, I could also lash him into DT, or in range of another unit I want to shoot at them.

But yeah, he will break off and join up depending on what I need him to lash, I wish I could make him more surviveable, because the main problem I see with that strategy is him getting shot to pieces the second he breaks off.

I would advise you along with many others not to listen to this advice. It's kind of like the argument for/against Eldar Guardians; some like them, others don't. Regardless, a balance of the two is perfectly acceptable.

The Havocs aren't worth it, but you probably knew that already. 2 Oblitz will go a lot further.
