What do you use to seal your minis?

In the past I have used various spray sealers that no longer seem to be on the market so I am looking for peoples opinions as to what is good. Good by my definition, of course.

I recently tried the Armory matte spray, and it worked fine but it really dulled out my paintjobs. So here are my requirements:

Spray can based clear coat

Easy to get in the US

Minimal effect on the paintjob

Multiple sealers are ok (ie: gloss then matte)

What do people use? The GW spray? another one?

Thanks all

What do you use to seal your minis?

Watered down Mod Podge. Thanks to FoxPhoenix135. It's super cheap, found at any arts and crafts store and makes a nice strong, clear seal. It's kind of a thin Elmers Glue and you can put it on as thin or thick as you like. It does have a slight satin finish but that's really depending on how thick you lay it down. A couple of watered down coats (about 3:1) doesn't create the satin-y finish.

I use Delta ceramacoat matte varnish. It's an acrylic brush on product that I found at the art supply store for something like 99 cents. It works especially well when you brush it over water transfers, it dulls them out and hides the line a bit. Needs to be slightly diluted with water.

What do you use to seal your minis?

We get certain aerosol products banned here for VOC content. several of my favorite autobody cans were pulled from shelves because of high contents of "volitile organic compounds". I think high levels of isocyanate are part of the problem. There are alternatives; I don't know whats available in Europe, but here we have products called "waterborne" that are 50 state legal and supposedly less hazardous. There are all sorts of primers and clears, the ones I like are made by either PPG or Akzo\Nobel. You might try your local autobody\paint supplier for a good matte clear.

Re:What do you use to seal your minis?

Thanks for all the advice. I picked up some Krylon Crystal Clear http://www.krylon.com/products/crystal_clear_acrylic at the local hobby shop and tried it out today. I am very happy with the results. Here is a pic of a mini re-sealed with the Krylon next to one painted at the same time and sealed with Armory matte http://paizo.com/store/byCompany/t/theArmory/sprayPrimer/v5748btpy73we.

The matte is so dull, and almost cloudy. The Krylon is semi-glossy and looks more like the mini did when it was finished being painted

Left side: Krylon
Right side: Armory Matte
