I need a product to protect my paint jobs .......

I've just started painting my Orks and i need a product to protect them from flaking / chipping - but i want something that doesn't leave a shiny layer (I use a mixture of GW and Vagina paints)

I bought some really nice semi pro painted minis that were 'protected' but they really shined, any advice that could give similar protection without the shine welcome - many thanks

(i have posted my first Ork although pic doesn't let you see the detail - regardless i'm happy with him)

Matt varnish. google them , there are different ones.

As LunaHound says, matt varnish is what you need.

Acrylic is good, make sure to stir it very well.

I like to spray a coat of gloss polyurethane first, then paint on matt acrylic when it is dry. This gives a really strong coat for figures you will handle a lot. I use satin instead of matt on vehicles.

Whats the difference between satin and matt varnish o_o

I really due to budget could do with one product and considering my first Ork was the first of 60 - maybe a spray ??

While i cant remember the result from using it , atleast its not negative like GW's varnishes. oh how i hate GW products T-T

Bad quality products for over the top prices ( its a good reason! )
The matt varnish they sell is still glossy ( defeats the purpose of matt ? )

I cant think of any reason to buy their hobby products at all to be honest.

Satin has a bit of shine to it. It's like the difference between washed skin and skin with suntan oil on. Military vehicles are a satin finish because it's impossible to make them matt.

Vallejo, the brand is called Vallejo.

I use Krylon Clear Coat. Comes in a large spray can, works great. Used it to seal my Orks, all 99 of them in one go.

In the case of the matte coat there have been (not a few) reports of the matte drying with a definite 'not clear' finish, yellowish beige if I remember correctly. Consider that you can get NOT-GW mattecoats for anywhere between 10-50% of the GW price, that have sterling reputations, and the price becomes even that much more unbearable. This being said, I've only ever used GW matte coats (they were free, the benefits of working at a FLGS), and haven't had this problem. Now that I'm no longer 'in the biz' I will start shopping around for better products at better prices.

I use the crap out of this stuff. It is by far the best on the market, but make ABSOLUTELY sure you use it in a well ventilated area.
