Barefoot Running?

Does anyone do any barefoot running? I'm interested in trying it or using extremely minimal shoes for my distance running (and speedwork too I guess).

I think they would have to be pretty soft feet for that to happen. I've run just for fun barefoot before and never really had a problem on asphalt. I'm thinking about starting on a local track and getting some short distances in there before progressing on to longer distances.

Barefoot Running?

Long-time soccer (football, futbol, whateva) player here. Played semi-pro for a year out of high school until I tore my right quad in half during a game. Kinda ended the whole soccer career thing. Up until then, almost all running done was for training purposes. I've been off of almost all hard training except for light 2 mile runs twice a week. I'm ready to kick it up and train barefoot (teaches proper foot striking form) and hit a 5k then marathon. Right now I run about 4 miles three times a week with a day of intervals thrown in to increase quickness.

Deff Dread red Edition wrote:But don't you need shoes to cusion the shock that your
feet recieve from pounding down on the road?

Not according to some medical studies that have come out in the last few years. Running shoes don't really cushion the shock, but distribute the shock more evenly. It lets you get some messed up running form that will hurt you in the long run. Feet can become much stronger that we think. Here's an interesting site that links to a few of the medical studies. http://barefootchronicles.googlepages.com/barefootfaq
