Dark Mechanicus vs Mechanicus

Okay so here is the deal in all the fluff ive read mechanicus ie the imperium are very rigid and slow to use new technology and old technology let alone craete it themselves while the dark mechanicus ie chaos is all about the new and change and creating and inventing. SO why in game terms does the imperium somehow produce so many new things while chaos simply has stuff its either looted or kept from the heresy and not only that but all its gear is exactly the same as the preheresy stuff. And for that matter what happens when a chaos marine sees a land raider redeemer do they just strip it down to a regular landraider or just leave it thier.

Dark Mechanicus vs Mechanicus

GW likes to sell Spess Mahrens. That's the reason.

The "fluff" reason is that the fluff is constantly getting re-written to market the new hotness. Consider how empty the skies were in old codexes, now look how "modern" the skies look in the Imperial Guard codex (which, surprise surprise!) contains rules for fliers. If the Solar Macharius story was retold, it would no doubt include an insertion of Storm Troopers by Valkyrie.

There isn't a good reason that CSM's shouldn't have the older Land Raider variants, just like there's no reason for them not to have Land Speeders. They just don't. Just like how the IG used to have beastmen and jump pack troopers, and the Orks used to be able to be taken as IG allies.

It's unfair to expect the story line to remain completely unchanged over 20+ years. GW is a company selling luxury goods and that means they have to generate new revenue. But I'd like some consistency, if only so that fluff purists like myself could have a good, consistent and well-written narrative to be purists about. The "A new scroll was discovered by the =I= that just happens to mention the new vehicle!" retcon shtick is getting old.

My fantasy is a complete franchise reboot, along with a release of all new, well-balanced codicies (all developed at the same time, even if they aren't released at the same time) and a unified history document (even if the history wasn't released to gamers, a central narrative written down in Nottingham that all development would have to be cleared against.)

While I'm dreaming, I'd also like a billion dollars, a pony and the Swedish beach volleyball team.

Re:Dark Mechanicus vs Mechanicus

I understand that as a business, yes, GW will highlight whatever the newest model or revenue stream is, but I think you are mistaken to imply that aerial transport has suddenly come about as a result of this. I think this is just an evolution of the game play mechanics. Yes, monetary concerns do play a part in the over the top promotion of SM but I consider GW's fluff to be its life blood and I think that the "evolution" of the actual weaponry is something that the rules have allowed the fluff to develop. I don't like about 90% of GW's business decisions but I don't think this is one area that they are not messing with rather they are trying to just evolve the fluff with the rules.

Re:Dark Mechanicus vs Mechanicus

You could look at it as the Dark Mechanicus doesnt have access to the industry that the Imperium has or the researchers that the Imperium has, there working with whatever was left after they ransacked a planet and depending who it was destroyed everything on it. And tho they have the Drak Gods on there side the warp energies cant easily be fused with weapons it requires time. The Imperium is so vast that the Mechanicus cant enforce all there laws either just as The Imperium has trouble with it, therefore there free to advance to areas of research, building, ect. without being burnt alive, thats if the put out something good at least.

Dark Mechanicus vs Mechanicus

The dark mechanicus after fleeing to the warp with the traitors then succumbed to the ruinous powers who are more about flesh than machines. The dark mechanicus were duped into trying to produce more machine hybrids like obliterators instead of the pure research they originally intended to do.

I imagine that it would also be difficult to research technology inside the eye where the laws of physics are not always consistant. They'd have to be constantly trying to do their research in real space while hiding from the Imperium. Perhaps they do create amazing weapons of war and feats of engineering but they only operate on the chaos worlds they're created on, or they're not prepared to hand over the designs to anyone who can actually make the things.

Dark Mechanicus vs Mechanicus

Well, part of it will be Chaos has few or no Forgeworlds to base it's construction on. The traitors couldn't exactly take those with them and only a handful are near or in one of the warp areas. That's going to limit there production comparatively.

Secondly there is at least some internal strife in Chaos over the plans, resources and equipment for building weapons. The Iron Warriors want it, the Tech-Marines that aren't obliterators (and likely the Obliterators) want it, the Dark Mechanicus want it...whereas in the Imperium all of these things are the soul domain of the Mechanicus, and the Mechanicus is powerful enough to back up those claims at a pinch.

Dark Mechanicus vs Mechanicus

And while no, they're not inventing much, a large portion of the Mechanicum's energy is spent scowering lost worlds for any shread of an STC or damage item to exam. Add that to how carefuly the guard their secrets for anything more interesting or complicated then a lasgun or bicycle, it's no suprise the Mechanicum has technology the Dark Adepts can't replicate.

The Dark Adepts also had to leave a lot behind when they retreated, including any access to the Temple of All Knowledge, where all the plans are. They have to re-invent things the rest of the Mechanicum can just download plans for.

Plus the resorces issue listed above.

dude im not saying that they should have everything the regular space marines had then thier would be no piont in playing space marine what im saying is i find it rather suprising that machine priest obsessed with finding new technology have barely mad any progress in the past 10 milliniea and are totally reliant on the t echnology they use to have with few exceptions............. and thats not accounting for the distortion between time in the warp and time in realspace

Automatically Appended Next Post:
i mean can you seriously expect a scientist not to event anything but one or two thing in over several milliuem i mean come on

Theyu have created various daemon engines and stuff, but I suspect the Dark Mechanicus is mostly used to maintain what vehicles the traitors have.

You are right, though, Chaos could do with some more crazy ass Defiler style weapons to theme them away from Vanilla Marines a bit more.
