Space Marines Chapter (Does this fit the fluff?)

After getting too many left over Space Marines from my AoBR boxed set, I decided to put together a little Space Marine force. Mainly this was at my son's prompting so that we could have a "guest" army for when his friends come by and want to learn how to play. With that in mind, I set out to start painting, but couldn't settle on a paint theme. All of the standard Codex paint jobs seemed cool, and I'm a really novice painter, so they all had specific challenges that made them interesting to try.

So, I decided to form my own chapter that used the color schemes of all the others. Basically the idea is that my chapter represents fallen Space Marines from other chapters who have left their original chapter and joined these "Lost Boys" for one reason or another. So, for example, some are Nova Marines, who are reportedly "Scattered throughout the galaxy," some are Brazen Claws who left were scattered before they went into the Eye of Terror, some are Relictors who basically left the chapter because of the whole tainted artifact issue, etc. etc.

The defining mark is that, when they join the "Lost Boys" (working title, I suppose), they paint over their old troop insignia with an orange paint. So all the modles have the basic colors of their original chapter, but it's marked in at least one area with the blank orange color (typically the shoulder pad, for example).

I have posted a few model pictures in My Gallery and while I'd appreciate feedback on the painting as well (I'm still very new to painting of any kind), I'm wondering if the fluff works.

Thoughts?

I guess that would work, I mean kinda sounds like The Legion of The Damned but The Legion are from one Chapter its sayed. But I think you mite have to change the whole thing about fallen from other chapters, the Dark Angels are the only ones who have fallen IIRC, perhaps they could be renegade Space Marines from those chapters that believe The Imperium corrupt, like The Soul Drinkers do, and fight for Humanity but not for The Imperium itself, cause I dont think other Space marines would be fighting with fallen, Do you have more background for them?

NoBanjo wrote:Okay, so I think I'm in over my head in terms of Space Marine fluff I assume they are still aligned to the Emperor, but I clearly haven't though this through completely. During the Badab uprising they betrayed the Imperium and fled into the Maelstrom; along the way, the Red Corsairs attracted countless other renegade marines, who would often simply mark their new allegiance with a red "X" over their former chapter's insignia. Thus, the Red Corsairs were a collection of assorted chapters banded together in treason. (They were also pirates.)

I could see a warband made from various other chapters still loyal to the Imperium working out though. Maybe formed in the aftermath of some sort of crusade that went awry? They could be fleet based, recruiting those loyal to the Imperium but abandoned or stranded somehow, with the space marines forming the fleet's command and vanguard. The core of the marines could be from chapters that are scattered or declared destroyed (so they have nowhere to go), with marines from still functioning chapters on the side (who could have a variety of reasons to have joined with them).

Space Marines Chapter (Does this fit the fluff?)

In the second ed ultramarines book makes reference to crusade forces. That when a crusade is called many space marine chapters may contribute troops, even if it is only a squad or two.

I believe it also makes some kind of mention in more recent books about Guilliman being one of the few Captains who has enough respect from other Marine Chapters to get a crusading force together.

So if you did each squad up in a singular chapters paint scheme and perhaps used Ultramarines for the command units, I could see that working fluff wise.

Just my two cents.

Space Marines Chapter (Does this fit the fluff?)

Under strength marine units get recycled to form new chapters. The habit of marines to go all over the galaxy to fight in often small numbers though means that it is very likely that groups of loyalists marines from various chapters find themselves fighting the same battles together. In such a case a chaplain or other senior marine would take over command of the marines present.

If the marines are the only ones left after their chapter was wiped out or turned traitor, maybe they've been grouped together with other remnant marines to fight an important battle. This is a temporary situation and after the crisis is over they'll be used to found new chapters or maybe reinforce existing ones of the same geneseed as themselves (if that happens). If they're remnants of chapters that have turned traitor then there may be grey knights leading them to ensure their loyalty.

Space Marines Chapter (Does this fit the fluff?)

I remember reading that when there was unrest in the hives on various worlds. The Imperials asked Space Marines chapters to lend aid of soldiers. This often meant that you could have 10 terminators for example from 10 different chapters which were more than enough to quell any uprising. When the enemy saw this he would believe that 20 chapters had arrived so many of the unrests were quickly resolved.

Food for thought to help with the fluff for your army.

I've seen this done before - A guy did an army on B&C that was made up of "Extinct" Chapters and Marines from those that had lost their Homeworld or been exiled. Long as you have some way to set them apart from someone playing one of those chapters - which you do - then it would probably work fine. Plus, if you look up some Killteam pics on Google and read the Killteam section in the 4th Ed Rulebook, you could come up with some wicked personalizations for a small 750 pt force.

Need a better name than "Lost Boys" though.
