Animated SM Dread

Has anyone converted SM dreads to look more animated? I hate how squatty, boxy, and encumbered they look.

I am about to undertake some simple conversions simply to make the dread look less static. I'm thinking about lengthening the torso a bit and extending the arm joints to give some lateral movement to the armaments.

What have you done? PICS please if you've got them

Re:Animated SM Dread

I'd like to know that too.

This looks like a simple and yet really effective conversion. Which means that it probably took hours and it was almost impossible to get the right look.

Personally I like it. My dreads have twin autocannons. So I stuck at aiming then skywards, this has got me thinking though as those extra panels look really great and do look out of place at all...

Animated SM Dread

Years ago I did this with a Furioso tearing through a fence.

And when I say years....I mean it was an all metal fig....the plastics these days make it uber easy to pose them

But nice work on the extra armor panels. Are you planning on adding the SIIR's all over them?

(SIIR= standard issue Imperial rivet) <--I jsut made that up and found it amusing.

Animated SM Dread

just my 2 Cents. I think dreads are kind of akward to pose nicely (good job on that one tho. looks great!) i have always found it hard to not make them look clumbsy. Re-posing always helps but i can never seem to rid the look of unbalance from mine.

Animated SM Dread

Well IIRC I did the basic build in about 4 or 5 hours. then went to work on GSing and the other gubbins. So without GS drying time i would say I spent about 10 hours total.

I actually wasnt going to do any rivit work on the extra armor bits, I was going to try to paint it up as if it had been welded on.

I had seen Boltmans WorlEater dread and luved how he was able to instill such a great sense of motion to it, I just had to try it for myself. This model lead me to build a complety customized marine army trying to instill the same sense of motion to almost every model. you can see some pics of it in my gallery.
