viel of tears/harlequins vs blast templates

The FAQ says that barrage weapons need to still roll to spot harlequins as do any other types of blast weapons.

My question then is, lets say I have a unit of wraithguard and a unit of harlequins in base to base with the wraithguard walking up a board. if a player shoots his battle cannon or earthshaker cannon at my wraithguard and are invariably hitting my harlequins with the blast template, do they still need to roll for viel of tears since harlequins are being targeted/hit as well?

I don't think a player can say "I choose to target the wraithguard and not the harlequins" with the shooting attack since harlequins are affected by the attack as well. What do you guys think?

It doesn't matter who or what you hit, it only matters what you are targetting. If you target the wraithguard, and place the center of the large blast marker over a wraithguard model, then you are targeting the wraithguard. In order to count as targeting the Harlequins, and thus invoke the spotting rules, you have to actually, explicitly target them. If they just happen to get hit because of where the blast ends up, that's just bad luck.

Actually, it does stop the shooting. Barrage cannot target a Harlie unit it "can't see" cause it doesn't know the unit is there. You still have to place the blast marker on a model in the targeted unit. You can't target the Harlies unless you spot them.

So dont place your wraithguard in that close contact to your harlies, since the guard can be targetted fine. The harlies can still provide cover for the wraithguard but you will want to space them a bit more ... and hope that nothing scatters too far from the guard.

Sliggoth

combo wrote:Oh my God, how will I ever take Gwars! statements as facts now, my entire world has been cleft in two.

Easy, I made a mistake, and rectified it. Even the Great Gwar! makes mistakes now and then. That is not the same as being wrong. If I had been Wrong, I would have edited my post and tried to cover up the fact.

I didn't because I was not wrong, I just made a mistake, admitted as such and fixed the mistake.

Much like people in 4th trying to have an IC walk close by a unit so he couldn't be targeted separately and then whining when a battlecannon hit the troops and took out the IC as well. Just because the IC couldn't be targeted he could still be hit.

Same here, really: VoT specifically works on any unit wishing to target the harlequins. Fire at the WG instead, problem solved.
