Independant and Retinue question

This one is either very simple or very tricky.
The rules states that an Independant Character that has a Retinue counts as an Upgrade Character until all his retinue is dead. So he can't leave his squad as long as he has one. When everyone is dead except him, he's a regular Independant Character again.
The question is, what about assaults? Does the IC also counts as a mere Upgrade then, meaning he can't be specifically targeted? Or does the IC character in Assault rule take precedence? Though... I'm not sure how it can take precedence since the character isn't an IC at the time... I guess?

EDITed typo in title >.<

It means that, like a SM sgt in a tactical squad, the IC cannot be targeted in assault so long as its retinue is around.
Independant and Retinue question

Yep, in fact all posters here are correct.
Except Gwar, he gets penalised for having a wierd cat.

Basically, the thing about retinue is that you want THEM to bite the bullet so your dude can kick thier ass on full health!

Independant and Retinue question

Nothing awesome about a CC inquisitor. The good in not getting singled out in your retinue is heavily outweighed by having to drag those hapless fools into CC to begin with.

Re:Independant and Retinue question

Just wondering and perhaps an easy answer,

Say the IC with the retinue charges a target and only the IC gets in base contact (perhaps they charged 1 model).
