Current macro metagame adjusting?

Today at my FLGS I had a pretty lively discussion with some of my friends there that play WH40K. We were talking about Space Wolves rumors, the Longfangs, the wolf claws, the assault cannons land raider.

While we were talking about this the idea that no one will take Longfangs because they compete with Land Raiders for Heavy support slots. This lead to someone saying "Yeah, but the game is shifting back toward Rhinos with all the melta around". And I've seen that, there is a lot of melta guns about now. In lists I see here on Dakka and on tables.

Do you think the metagame will shift away from few high AV vehicles to more lower AV vehicles because of the amount of melta spam in the current metagame? If so, why? If not, why?

I personally don't feel like the metagame will shift away form few high AV vehicles like Land Raiders. Even when you go to the chart if the melta gun is not in melta range (6" for melta guns 12" for multimeltas) your still going to have a pretty hard time cracking a land raider. It also takes WH40K a long time to adjust it's metagame away and to certain behaviors and layouts in play. It's also pretty easy for things like Land Raiders to avoid those kinds of weapons by simply driving backwards and laying out fire power on the units that are threatening with these weapons. Also, most armies will continue to spam their high AV vehicles unless they have something far superior to do with their Heavy Support slots (like obliterators).

As for the Long Fangs, I always really liked their ability to split fire even though you paid out the ass for the ability. Still, in spite of that, I ALSO liked having a LRC full of Blood Claws lead by a lord/priest.

I think that in casual play (which is the realm I operate) both are (and probably still) viable choices. The upshot of the Long Fangs is that they will have an easier time finding cover saves and its much more unlikely they will get popped from one shot.
