Do you have any ideas what he tends towards? i.e. Can you expect to see a casket?

They have great speed to go after your war machines, either with burrowers, or a first turn charge from Urgencied Carrion. Hitting those flyers with wrath and ruin could well be worth it to keep your war machines shooting for a little bit. Not much to do about tunnellers.

Sounds like a big part of the problem is the fact that the guy cheats...

RZ

Dwarfs Vs. Tomb Kings, what do i need to know?

the casket of souls isn't as big a threat to your army as it is for other. You have some of the greatest access to magic resistence, and if you bring a fighty general, you'll have leadership 10 throughout the bulk of your army, meaning that even if he does successfully cast it, it'll likely not do you much harm. The main things to look out for are lords on foot waving a big hurty stick, or maybe one of your units getting isolated and ganged up on. Take out his catapult first, then try to obliterate his flanking units. After that, your army shouldn't be particularly taxed in dealing with his line units.

Dwarfs Vs. Tomb Kings, what do i need to know?

The super uber problem, is if he can take out all of your war-machines and your one or two of your gunlines, he'll just run like hell and get to the other edge of the table.

4 Warmachines is a recipe for disaster against a tomb kings player, because any of them worth their salt will kill them off, for about half the points.

Luckily, TFG typically relies on rules minutea to gain the advantage instead of flat out out-playing his opponent. Identify his heirophant and kill it.. and you win... if he marches into your teeth, you win. If he turns it into a staring contest., good luck.

Re:Dwarfs Vs. Tomb Kings, what do i need to know?

Does anybody know how the FAQ works with the BRB part 2 errata, vs the TK FAQ? Specifically how MR works or doesn't vs the casket. The errata (which is a change in the rules) for MR requires a spell to target for you to get MR. Since the TK casket doesn't target, IIRC, it should bypass MR. Yet the FAQ (which is a rules clarification, and a dated one at that) says you can use MR vs it. Errata beats FAQ, but does army book trump BRB? It makes a rather large difference in a game which way you rule it.

That being said, the danger of TK is the movement phase. Since they can effectively bend charges (finding the flank), and charge longer than expected distances (TK can go 20 if they build them right), its best if you run a formation that castles up. Dwarfs are kings of doing this, and have good leadership and access to units that won't panic from the missiles TKs bring. As long as you know what you are doing with Dwarfs, you shouldn't have too big a problem.

What we need:

Likely list by him.
How he cheats
Points value of game
What units/characters/warmachines you have available.

Without any of that.

Watch him like a hawk in the magic phase (have the TK book open in front of you) and as soon as he goes out of order for casting stop the magic phase and accept no whining, it says clearly they have to follow the rder or it is all over.
Cannon his skull chucker (make it flaming as well so that if you do kill the catapault you can start sniping the flamable mummies and the soon to be dead chariots)
Magic defence spam (3 rune priests with 6 runes of dispelling will go down a treat), don't have the book with me but anty MR and +1 to dispel will also help immensely on any items.
Hammerers for stubborn (so they don't need snake eyes if they lose combat)
Crossbows (allow you to stay out of range of his bowfire in return)
Anvil.

Cryonicleech wrote:He' already taking a Runelord with Anvil, so that's useful enough. He's also probably got 2 skull chuckers here... what really sucks is even if you kill the thrower, he can just res it.

king and 3 priests isn't as bad,

But the king has the crown so he's averaging a 4 or 5 on both of his casts.

Along with 3 rolls at 2d6.. The problem is a smart Tomb Kings player picks one thing that he wants to do, and then he does it, He also has a total of a 24 inch charge range with every one of his fast units, So he'll take his unit of chariots, and blow away a unit of thunderers in one turn and then scream off the table.

TFG is rarely smart though. He usually relies on tricks to win, not tactics, so I don't think he'll be doing the above with pick and peck to win.

Figure out the heirophant and kill him. Against your dwarfs, I wouldn't be surprised if he put him on the casket if he was dumb enough to take one.

Just a few notes on rules/ideas here that have been mentioned here
MR does apply to the casket as per the FAQ (army spesific FAQ trumps big book of rules).
Anvil cannot target lone US1 or US2 chars
Anvil + 4 warmachines is overkill, bordering on insanity and uber cheese.
Runelord + 2 runesmiths is overkill and a waste of points. If you take the dude on the anvil take 2 fighty chars. You will need them.
Cannoning the catapult will not work. He can raise it back if the crew are still alive. Cannon it down and then use the anvil to squish the crew can work but not always (1D6 isnt always reliable)

Your best bet is actually anvil (take rune of no killing blow).
2 fighty chars (one being the BSB)
longbeards with immune to fear
hammers with immune to fear
warriors
small unit of miners (to kill casket/stone throwers)
2x10 quarrelers
1x cannon, 1x bolt thrower (str 7).

Run like mad forward and kill.
