Eldar 2000

Eldrad 210

10x DA, Exarch w/Double Shuriken Catapult, Bladestorm in Waveserpent w/ Scatter Lasers, Spirit Stones 277
10x DA, Exarch w/Double Shuriken Catapult, Bladestorm in Waveserpent w/ Scatter Lasers, Spirit Stones 277

5x Pathfinders 120
5x Pathfinders 120

Fire Prism w/ Spirit Stones 125
Fire Prism w/ Spirit Stones 125
Fire Prism w/ Spirit Stones 125

10x Striking Scorpions, Exarch w/ Scorpion's Claw & Shadow Strike 207
10x Striking Scorpions, Exarch w/ Scorpion's Claw & Shadow Strike 207
10x Striking Scorpions, Exarch w/ Scorpion's Claw & Shadow Strike 207

I just picked up the Eldar codex last night and I've just been toying around with the idea of a simple list like this. To explain things I guess I like Eldrad because he's good and I hear he comes to every Eldar battle ever. The DA are pretty cool too and can probably shoot most things off of objectives. I've always liker Pathfinders, infiltrate and snipers are pretty ballin'. At my store there are also tons of ruins so I can always infiltrate them into some tops of some buildings and shoot MEQs to death all day. People always say Fire Prisms are really good, so I guess I'll run them. I like the idea of infiltrating Striking Scorpions and I kind of want to try out a different painting style for them too, that I might do on the rest of the army if it works out well and looks good. Feel free to correct my assumptions if some of these units actually suck or something would be slightly more optimal.

I see this thread has got some views but no replies. Is this because the list is kind of 'win at all costs' cookie cutter? Are striking scorpions good? Or should I drop them in favor of banshee squads?

Re:Eldar 2000

Hi there

Couple suggestions to Your list

1. Take holo fields to Your prisms, If You get shot and penetrated then on 3+ Your prisms are as good as dead (well maybe 4=immobilised will get You a turn or two)

2.Sooooo many scorpions, they are one of my favorite units BUT if You will be fighting against MEQs than Howling Ladies will do much better (in the transport of course)

3. Most of the people say that fire prisms are good, well that is true, but maybe consider taking wraithlord with EML or Starcannon

4. In my Opinion Eldrad is way to expensive, one seer with doom and runes is enough, if You like take stones and guide for him

5. Is this list supposed to be all rounder or You will be using it against some particular opponent ?

6. I have a friend who is also playing eldar and in 1000 points game he has fielded 3 falcons 2 serpents with 5 avengers each and one doomseer, now that was only 1000 and see how mobile he was?? , Your scorpions lack the mobility there is too many of them.

7. Pathfinders are OK they are like must have unit

Generally the main trouble, in my opinion, in this list are the scorpions and the prims, scorpions because they do not have transport and when fighting with the MEQs they will die and prisms because I do not like them that much

Why are Banshees better for fighting MEQs? They have power weapons yes and three attacks on the charge but they need to be rolling 5s to wound them. While the Scorpions are making the same amount of attacks but need 4s to wound. I suppose a psychic power to make them a little better in CC is in order for the Banshees to be affective right?

As for the Farseer should his layout be spirit stones, Guide, Doom? Making him 120 points? I save 90 but if I change to Banshee squads I'm buying more wave serpents. Will it overall make them more expensive than my infiltrating Scorpions?

Farseer, Spirit Stones, Guide Doom 120

10x DA, Exarch w/Double Shuriken Catapult, Bladestorm in Waveserpent w/ Scatter Lasers, Spirit Stones 277
10x DA, Exarch w/Double Shuriken Catapult, Bladestorm in Waveserpent w/ Scatter Lasers, Spirit Stones 277

5x Pathfinders 120
5x Pathfinders 120

Fire Prism w/ Holo-Field 150
Fire Prism w/ Holo-Field 150

10x Banshees, Exarch w/ Triskele & Warshout in Waveserpent w/ Scatter Lasers, Spirit Stones 307
10x Banshees, Exarch w/ Triskele & Warshout in Waveserpent w/ Scatter Lasers, Spirit Stones 307

All this is 1828. That leaves 172 points to fill with a Wraithlord, how should I kit him out knowing I'll be fighting a pretty good deal of MEQs. Should I get more pathfinders or some other elite slot by dropping a Squad of DA?

Re:Eldar 2000

Add runes of warding to the farseer, cheapest insurance you can get. Since you have two psychic powers on him runes of witnessing would be worthwhile as well.

Also strongly consider getting a unit (or two) of fire dragons.

Scorpions are fine, banshees are fine; but neither squad will help against all the armor that you are going to be running up against. One land raider would be tough for your list to deal with, two would be ugly. You are placing all of your AT hopes on two prisms. Also, there is nothing wrong with splitting your cc a bit, if you are going to take two cc units then one scorp and one banshee is ok.

But ... you are going too heavy into the anti infantry mode here. Dont forget that your two squads of DA with bladestorm are already significant anti infantry units. And the two units of pathfinders are good at plinking infantry as well. One unit of cc should be plenty to add to that mix.

Taking your 172 points and cutting one banshee squad for another 307 would let you take two squads of fire dragons in well equipped serpents to go tank hunting.

In a pinch fire dragons are also good at taking out heavy infantry, Meq or termies both fall to str8 ap1 pretty fast.

Prisms are excellent heavy slot choices, they are good at AT as well as great at anti horde duty. With holofields they will survive against a surprising amount of fire as well. And scary prisms will tend to draw AT fire away from your serpents as well.

Banshees win out over scorps against meq precisely because of the PW, yes. Mathhammer shows banshees better at killing meq, scorps better at killing large quantities of troops such as orcs. Both benefit from having a farseer in their neighborhood tho.

There is nothing wrong with using Eldrad btw, but only if you remember to keep him near more than one unit. His 3 powers a turn can be really powerful as long as he is in the right place. And being able to redeploy 2-4 units just before the game begins can be handy sometimes too

Sliggoth

Typeline wrote:Scorpions are making the same amount of attacks but need 4s to wound.

They're actually getting more attacks due to Mandiblasters. With Doom working properly, I've found scorpions to be pretty effective against MEQs, especially by outflanking and stopping the march on turn 3. Mathhammer puts you in place to score more wounds, but 3+ armour saves can be a pain. Also Banshees are just cooler, even if they do wound on a 5

Eldar 2000

Eldrad 210
Avatar 155

10x DA, Exarch w/Double Shuriken Catapult, Bladestorm in Waveserpent w/ Scatter Lasers 267
5x Pathfinders 120
5x Pathfinders 120

Fire Prism w/ Spirit Stones 125
Fire Prism w/ Spirit Stones 125
Wraithlord w/ EML & 2x Flamer 115

10x Striking Scorpions, Exarch w/ Scorpion's Claw & Shadow Strike 207
10x Banshees, Exarch w/ Triskele & Warshout in Waveserpent w/ Scatter Lasers 297
10x Fire Dragons, Exarch w/ Dragon's Breath Flamer & Tank Hunters in Waveserpent w/ Scatter Lasers 287

Does this look any better? The high armor value and prevalence of armor is taken more into account with this list. Also instead of just Banshees, Scorpions or Fire Dragons I have all three now so I don't really have to worry about a weak point in my list. Eldrad is back and he brought the Avatar who I assume can really take some shots from other lists that are geared toward tank killers (he absorbs all the melta shots leveled at him, which most people I play with probably don't know).

To afford the EML Wraithlord (Who is also back up against bit units like hordes of orks) I dropped a squad of DAs. I think it'll be ok. The other squad should be able to push things off of objectives with help from one of the elite slots and the Pathfinders can sit on objectives I place high up in buildings midfield or backfield.

Finally, a question I'm sure has been answered countless times. Eldrad can only use his psychic powers on the unit he is inside a transport with and the transport itself right?

Edit: Need to cut 28 points. 2028. This is harder than I thought it'd be. How detrimental to the CC effectiveness would it be to remove the Scorpion claw? How about removing the Exarch from the Fire Dragon?
