I call it marketing, that is my guess into the "reason". Branding is a very powerful tool, and GW wields it like a drunken cave-man being guided by a pack of autonomous (and seemingly sentient) robots.

I buy GW stuff because I like some of their minis, and that is pretty much the one and only reason.
